Will I need to extend the wiring when installing 13 inch apes on a 98 800 Classic? If I do have to extend the wiring, what gauge wiring should I use? Also any suggestions on something to cover the wiring? The original grey wiring covers have discolored and I want something that will look cool.
Thanks for any help MaXx |

You may get away without changing your cables if you don't mind them hanging straight down from the bars. It's a matter of taste.
If I were you, I'd order up some 14" stainless cables from scootworks.com You should double check on the length, but that sounds about right for a 13 inch rise. You may also consider ordring some bars that are slotted for the wiring to snake through. That really cleans up and gives you a custom look. Nice bikes the 800s. Enjoy. D |

I have Barnett 6" over stainless cables , clutch and throttle set, Goodrich stainless 6" over brake hose, but my main concern is the electrical wiring for the controls. Id rather not have the wiring hanging straight down from the bars. The bars are not slotted for internal wiring. They are dimpled and knurled though....
I know the cables might be a little long for the 13 inch apes, but I may go higher in the future and didnt want to buy new cables again. I want a clean look but dont mind the bowed out longer cables....just dont want ugly looking electrical wiring |

When I put 12's on my 800 I was able to keep the throttle cables but the clutch had to be changed. For the wiring I ran them thru the bars...MUCH nicer look. I just simply cut, soldered and put on some heat-shrink tubing and ran it thru the bars. The brake line looks wierd but theres no pinch points and works fine. Good luck with it and I too wanna see pics when your done.

Take the extra time to run the wiring internally.
