I live by the trip odometer, even after the resistor trick.

Accelerating too slowly can waste fuel as well (not as much as accelerating too quickly), try to accelerate at a medium speed, maybe 3-4 seconds every 10 mph.

I guess all I can say is that I'm going the speed limit and I dont rush off at redlights anymore. My style of riding has calmed a bit.
Same here, been getting 43 with my mods, was getting 47 stock. We got a new rider in my group so we've been taking it easy. Didn't go faster than 65 on the highway and this last tank I got 53. I've been thinking about changing my riding as well, but I do love listening to my Cobras when I twist the giggle stick

If I am riding in areas with a lot of gas stations I will hit a station after the light comes on. If I fill up as soon as the light comes on the bike will take almost 4 gals exactly, so I know I have a safe 40 miles to hit a station.

If I am on a long cruise, I hit stations around every 140-160 depending on their spacing. As I said before it all depends on how hard I am riding the throttle. I have gotten upto 53 MPG with a lot of normal 60-65 MPH riding.

wait to see how many miles you have when the light comes on.. For the longest time I thought my light didnt work cause I would always fill it up when it got to E... but I figured it out... I still have over 1 1/2 gal. till the light comes on

Are there instructions to do that online?

Do a search in this forum. There is a lot of information right here that should help you with the fuel gauge. BTW, I consistently get 50+ MPG and have since my classic was new. I've added a windshield, cobra pipes and fuel regulator, sissy bar, and a luggage rack.

Last week I changed both of the drive pulleys and will be checking the milage soon to see if there is any difference now.

Ride safe,
Russ

I'm actually averaging the "as-billed" 45 mpg. I have the V&H pipes, and I really don't go out on the highway. I have a buddy with an '07 custom and his light will come on with about 1.2 gallons left. I haven't let it go that far.

Is the gas mileage really an issue. I know that I get better gas mileage than I do in my truck but I didn't buy my motorcycle because I was worried about gas mileage. My main concern is to have fun and enjoy the ride. I fill up the tank when the light comes on.

Gas mileage was one of the reasons I bought mine.
