After my last trip to the dealer for the fuel line factory recall, I noticed a drop of oil under the bike. I am proud to say that none of my vehicles have ANY oil leaks. I checked it out and wiped off the bottom of the bike and did not find a leak. I went on a ride a few days later and the next day I saw another drop of oil. I checked with my hand around the bottom of the bike and found more oil under the chrome pully cover.
I took off the cover and found oil at the bottom of it on the inside. The oil was clean like it was fresh. I found oil on the black pully cover in the little box where the wires are tucked into. The wires had clean oil on them as well as inside the blue connector. I cleaned it off and was wondering what was leaking. I went ahead and took off the pully cover and found more oil on the inside of the cover at the bottom bolt (finger point. I am positive that there is no oil leaking from any part of the bike around this area. I checked it real well with a good flashlight. It is bone dry. My question is; Is there any way that oil would leak in this area, or can oil be pushed out from the casing where the wires are coming through? It is dry all around there. I was thinking that maybe the black plastic tubing protecting the wires coming out of the case, but that does not explain how oil got inside the cover. ??? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This one below is directly under where I found oil. It is dry. ![]() BTW; The bolts that everyone said was so hard to get out when changing the pully, were not even torqued. I have never had service done on this area and I have never pulled off this cover myself. I used an allen wrench and my hand and it did not even give that "Snap" that you usually hear. I would hate to think that someone is trying to make me think I have a problem that I don't have.

Anyone who may have replaced their pully themselves can chime in and let me/us know if you found any oil in these areas.
Any help is appreciated. I am concerned that an unscrupulous person may have placed the oil there to get me to bring the bike back for service.

mine was dry. Leaking oil would be the color of whatever the oil in your crankcase was. Sounds like someone just missed when they were changing your oil and you're cleaning up from the places they couldn't get. Clean it well and keep an eye on it. Check your oil level every day if you have drips. If not, check it at least every week if not more often. It's a pain in the neck when a car engine runs out of oil and seizes. It causes pains in the neck, legs, abdomen, thorax, head, arms, pretty much anywhere on the body when you're motorcycle engine seizes up.

When I changed my pulley I found CLEAN oil in that area also. I believe it's spillage from the dealers oil changes. I pulled the front Tranny cover and wiped out the excess. It was like someone missed the funnel refilling it. Never had a problem since then (8000 miles later).
You'll also find oil in the air cleaner cover from the tanny breather tube. That is a recurring happening. Aif

As for the air filter, I changed that last year to a hypercharger and I did find oil in that area at that time. I have been watching for oil around there since, but I have not found any so far. I read the article about Blow By written by Mark Zimmerman. Good article. Thanks everyone for the input.
