Default Kawasaki Comfort Gel Seat has arrived...

Just got back from the dealership. Picked up my Comfort Gel seat for the 900 Custom. Got it installed and the fit is very good. Feels a lot firmer than the stock seat but the pillion seems to be a bit more padded. What I've noticed just sitting on it is that the contact area is broader than the stock seat so it will probably distribute weight more evenly across the entire surface.

I'll get out and ride tonight. While I had the seat off I decided to clean the bike up with some spray cleaner that they had sitting up on the counter at the parts department and now I'm soaked in sweat!

Will report back after the ride with my short ride review.

You'll love it compared to stock. I've put about 1100 miles on mine and its a big improvement.

I'll tell you what, I got mine on Tuesday and I'm really not that crazy about it. I don't get that curved under tailbone pain anymore, so that's a good thing, but to me it's really not that comfortable. Maybe I need a firmer butt.

I don't think its the best seat just a big improvement over the stock. I am still unable to ride out a full tank and that is with the gell seat, risers, scootworks pully and highway bars. I don't know if its just me, the bike or if I need a mustang seat.

Given the pain of the stock seat, I'll tell you that the $220 I paid for mine was worth every red cent!!!

OK,

Here's a link to photobucket for the pictures:

Just got out of the shower so I'll take it for a ride in a little while. My daughter is going on the maiden voyage with me so I'll get some feedback on the pillion as well.

Be back a little later...

OOoooh.... do they make this for the 1600 Classic? I am in search of a better seat. I have a wide a$$, and need something more comfortable. The previous owner had a custom seat made to be really low, that has a gell insert... After about 100 miles my hip joints start to hurt, I am assuming it's the seat...

ANYHOW... any more information on this seat would be greatly appreciated....

I too look forward to hearing about the seat. I have one on order from Ron Greene Sports Center for my 900 Classic LT. Did a lot of research and chased down alot of info in these postings on all the seat options. For me I hope the gel seat works as it was the cheapest alternative compared to Corbin, Mustang and Saddlemen. I am keeping my fingers crossed. My seat will add to the other small mods I've done which includes ISO grips and the Hopnel tank bib (received and installed yesterday).

$220 sounds good! I ordered mine yesterday from a local dealer in Edmonton, and it is going to cost me $300 CDN$ for the studded version. It should be in next Thursday and I am looking forward to trying it out. I called Beartooth Kawasaki in Montana, but they won't ship to Canada so I bought local.

I rode to Williamsport (2.5 hours one way) last week, and the Gel seat is a vast improvement over the butt-numbing stock seat. I got a steal off eBay for mine - keep an eye out there as well.

I was born in Williamsport! ! Awesome!

Anyhow, any information on this seat being available for other models? Like the vn1600a?

Thumbs up

Just got back from a 55 mile ride. Did a little highway and the rest was backroads with lots of twists and bumps. There is a definite improvement over the stock seat. You feel more "planted" and "cradled". The seat is also definitely firmer and I can see where some might find that uncomfortable...BUT... I think that in the long haul, after a breaking in period there is no doubt that it is much better than the stocker. The additional back support is greatly appreciated as the stocker sort of just wallows back there.

My verdict: Two thumbs up!

BTW,

Dude500... Thanks! That's what sold me on the bike. It looks a LOT better in person than it does in pics. They don't do it justice.

I put a studded saddleman gel on mine just over 2 years ago. I have no problem going tank to tank with it. I really like it. Mine came from Saddleman long before Kaw had them. Don't know about the ones Kaw sells but the rear on this one has gel too.
