Default Buying Kuryakyn ISO grips

I just wanted to check to make sure I was buying the right grips for my bike before I order them. I have a 97' Vulcan 1500 Classic. The ISO Kuryakyn grip number for my bike is 6235, right? Thanks in advance for your time. Ryan

Also will I be using my throttle sleeve from my stock grips again for these or will they come with a sleeve installed? Thanks again Ryan

Name101, did you actually ride a bike with the ISO grips? I thought they were what I wanted for certain, had them installed, and have been unhappy with them since. Relative to the stock grips, the ISO grips feel massive and clumsy. I've only been using them since April, but still haven't gotten "used" to the feeling.
I love the look. They are just so darn girthy.
As far as I know, you use your existing throttle sleeve. They don't come with a throttle sleeve, and I wasn't charged for one by the installer.
Good luck.

6235 are the correct grips for all Vulcans.
6261 are correct for the Iso-Flame grips.

I liked the ISO, but they do feel a bit "lumpy". I really do like the Iso-Flame grips better.

The two grips above DO include the throttle tube, so you simply remove your stock throttle and replace it with the Iso, then cut off your left grip and position the ISO so it matches the angle of the throttle grip.

The universal 6240 does not have a throttle sleeve. This is the grip that a lot of dealers stock because it will fit ANY bike, but it makes installation more complicated, and it's the same price as the 6235

I just installed the flame grips and I like them more than the stock. It seems more air moves around the hand making them feel a little better, less sticky.

I have the ISO's on my 900. I love 'em! I also added the stiletto end caps.
However, the end caps are a little pricey.
Watch the glue they give you. When you put the left grip on, clean the bar with rubbing alcohol or acetone first. Then take a light grit sandpaper and rough up the surface just a little, wipe down with alcohol. Smear on the glue but sparingly!!!!!
When I did it, I used too much glue and it never set. Re-did it with epoxy glue and the left grip is on there solid! And you can also use hair spray as glue!!!

Lucky...

I put the 6235's on my 900. I like them a lot better than the stock grips! It feels like you have more control over the throttle because they have a larger diameter.

That explains why mine didn't come with one. I got the universal off the shelf at the mechanic's front shop.
As far as installation, too true. On one particularly hot day a few weeks ago, the left grip that the mechanic had installed simply let go, and I could rotate or slide it around the bar. I brought it back to the mechanic, and he reinstalled it, but this time with epoxy. It doesn't feel like it's going anywhere now.

Supplied glue on mine lasted a grand total of 48 hours. Used 3M contact cement to re-glue it and when I sold the bars to Scruffy I had to use my Dremel to cut the "cage" to remove the left grip.
Used the same thing to install the Iso-Flames on my apes.

I didn't follow typical "contact cement" instructions (apply to both surfaces, wait until tacky, stick together)... I just squirted it into the grip, smeared it around inside, and shoved it on. I had plenty of time to position it... only drawback is I couldn't ride for 24 hours.

My ISO grips came with a tube of glue "adhesive death grip " that was completly empty, I have never felt so robbed, well kinda. So I used Dr. Hold from autozone, worked great and I had about 10 seconds to adjust the grip after it was on. I love them in compasion to the stock grips on my 900 custom, but I like the bigger feeling they have over stock, plus they look great.

I figured its worth mentioning that im selling a set of ISO grips with both throttle bosses in the accessory swap meet of this forum if you want to take a look. Same one you guys mentioned, the 6235's

Mine had the thottle sleeve built into the right grip and that was good because I only got the grips to replace the one my drunken neighbour broke while trying to twist my throttle while I was holding it.
