By the way...since I finished my valve adjustment and other work yesterday, my neighbor stopped by this morning to take a look at the re-assembled bike (he was skeptical that I would even get it back together) He noticed the hoses and air switch valve I removed when I did the "marble" job and asked what that was. I said "those are parts left over from the re-assembly." He looked dumbfounded so I explained that I intentionally left them off. He walked away, but I dont think he believed me! ![]()

I was thinking about filling those holes with silicone... to do it right, I'd take them off, lay them flat, put tape on one side, fill the hole, let it cure and them take the tape off before putting them back on. And that's exactly why it isn't done yet. ![]() I'll take them off for something one day (I have to pull the bolts out if/when I put the backrest back on to take my wife for a ride) so maybe I'll do it then... What did you end up deciding to do with the crossover hose between the valve covers... did you cap them, or run a hose between them and if you did, did you marble it or not? So may different ways, just curious...

Ive been thingking aubout the Marble thing.
Dont realy get it. why? In the original situation the hose was 'open', just had another inlet in it. so theres nothing changed realy, yust the inlet valve is closed forever now.

I ran a connector hose between them. Its still open. I looked for a steel ball to plug it with, but couldnt find anything other than a glass marble. I am scared to use glass for fear of it chipping or breaking.

BUT, there is little likelihood that this would cause any real problem, and I think Wolf left his open too. I went with caps, NOT because I was worried about any of that, but for two reasons only: 1-Caps were cheaper 2-Caps are one less hose in the way for the NEXT valve adjustment! Otherwise, I don't think I'd have any problem leaving the hose open.

I dont see any harm in it. I dont even think there is a poential for crossover gasses. If the reed valves are doing there job, there would be no airflow of any kind going into the tube, only out of it.
At worst case, the vacuum effect cause by the flow of exhaust past one reed valve would be pulling against the other one, causing it to be further closed. And even if the reed valves were removed, you are only causing exhaust from one cylinder to vent out the exhaust port of the other cylinder, right? In any case, I'm satisfied with my marble-less marble job.

I just walked back into our shop and our shop foreman has about a dozen pieces of diamond plate cut out into 2x2" squares, all lined up on a table ready for welding...
Guess who I thought of?! ![]()

I don't either. I think the suggestion to marble them is OK, but maybe even overkill. Like I said, I did the caps just to avoid one more thing that has to come off every 6,000 miles, but in fact, I think the hose LOOKS better, & looks functional (as much as you'd actually see it, OR the caps)!

Let me warn you about your list item #2...
It seems Ma Kaw is not immune to the current economic situation either. Valve shims now retail at $9/each!!
