Yeah... didn't even think about it then.... I'm not sure if previous owner ever did it before I bought it with 8k miles on it.

You must have a real good serive department were you are at. The Kawi dealer were I live will take the trade plus $7 per shim. |

I was going to ask... but when I realized that the action of the rocker arm on the shim promptly wears off the size marking, making them look obviously used and forcing you to size them with calipers, I didn't bother...

thats weird I've never seen the markings wear off. If you turn the shim so the markings are facing down on the valve and not on the rocker arm they shouldn't wear off.
I guess I must have a good service department but it's not really a big deal. I got the suggestion from wolf and the first place I stopped by was happy to do it.

That is what I did with the ones I replaced, but the ones removed must have been up because markings were gone. I bought a set of digital calipers from harbor freight for 12 bucks, worked great. |

+1 on the harbor freight digital caliper. I bought the same one.
The new shims I bought had the size etched in. The old shims had the sizes printed or painted on them, and they were hard or impossible to read.

I disagree. It shouldn't wear off if it's facing down. It will wear off it's facing the rocker arm. Thats why they come that way stock...with the shim marking facing down. But like you said no biggie. Just buy a caliper. So I guess it would probably be easier just to buy a set of shims off ebay if your dealer/mechanic won't trade because yeah...that would get old real fast having to order 6-9 dollar shims everytime. So now that I have valve adjustments out of the way who wants to start a writeup on how to do all the other hard stuff. Like lubing the swing arm and steering and all that jazz. i wish we had those grease fittings!! What is the list of everything your supposed to lube??

I need to get a better service manual. I have this pdf file on my computer but I'm a very picture oriented person and it appears that the pages were just scanned and the picures are really hard to make out.
I'd like to do the swing arm lubrication, swing arm, and brake camshaft lubricate
