Listen up 800ers....
The 2009 odometer race starts today. The word is "satisfaction" Check the sticky in the Off-Topic forum for the details. I say we do our own odometer race, amongst just the 800ers. We'll follow the same rules and format of the BTK one, so get your images submitted with your mileage. We will discuss a winning "award" later...we have all summer to figure something out... Devildogge, you better get that speedo connected asap! Fabulous donkey prizes to the top score!!

I may be gone for the summer. It's a long story... I'll play until then though!

I should be able to get the sprockets and chain replaced soon enough and again, I'm pretty hopeful on that... and all kidding aside (which is pretty hard for me) I really do want to get this ticking GONE, I'm sure I can find something else to obsess over! There's a pretty reasonable possibility I may be deployed to Kandahar, as early as May...

Neither did I. Well when put into proper perspective, our bikes are trivial matters in comparison to real world problems. If you are deployed, you will be missed. I wish you and your family the best in this difficult transition.

Yes and no; I didn't re-locate it just yet. I have some other things to do and will get to that while I'm in there. I did use a bit of PVC from work to block off the front 1/3 of the air cleaner. Did that on lunch break one day and it's worked so well I kinda forgot about it. I have some overdue maintenance to do still... sucky stuff too like swingarm and steering head... and the fun fun job of valve adjustment. Got 10K on this one so I know at least 4 are way out. Goint to lower the back of my bike 1.5" as well.

Jeff, I am really hoping this is some kind of April-fools joke about the Afgahnistan deployment.
(Most people just say they bought a Harley and they're going to miss us.)

Thanks guys... you're very kind, but I usually save that kind of heart-felt appreciation for the REAL front-line soldiers... I'd be going in a civilian support role.
You'll probably hear a lot more about Afghanistan as your own troops move in over there, but we have a very large base in Kandahar and my role would be one of retail support... I'd be managing all of the retail outlets on the base. Stores, restaurants, grocery, goods... there are eight outlets all together (including Tim Horton's and Burger King!) Nothing is finalized, and I WON'T leave you hanging, but there were a ton of hoops to jump through and until it looks like it might actually happen, I usually don't say too much about stuff... well, I've jumped through MOST of the hoops, and the next step is pre-deployment training at a Base, which is in a couple of weeks. It's something I'll take a lot of pride in and have the full support of my family, especially my wife... something I can take with me. I've always had a lot of passion for what OUR (yours and ours) men and women do to keep us safe and free, and I'll be thrilled to have the chance to give back. As far as safety goes, most of what I'll be doing will be right on the base itself. No one has been hurt on the base since 2005. If I go, it will likely be in early Spring, possibly as early as May. I'll start a thread then... I don't wanna just up and leave my flock! ![]()
