I just talked to our shop tech... he says that laying out a custom cut piece of sheet metal on our computerized plasma cutter is NOTHING...

So in theory, I can draw out the plate I'd need to block off the back of the air cleaner on the screen (even laying out the bolt holes), and have it cut out of stainless steel to within 1/16th of an inch... One more step toward Scooterizing!!!

Lol, or you can use some plexiglass, cut off wheel, and some glue.

You'll probably hear a lot more about Afghanistan as your own troops move in over there, but we have a very large base in Kandahar and my role would be one of retail support... I'd be managing all of the retail outlets on the base. Stores, restaurants, grocery, goods... there are eight outlets all together (including Tim Horton's and Burger King!)

Nothing is finalized, and I WON'T leave you hanging, but there were a ton of hoops to jump through and until it looks like it might actually happen, I usually don't say too much about stuff... well, I've jumped through MOST of the hoops, and the next step is pre-deployment training at a Base, which is in a couple of weeks.

It's something I'll take a lot of pride in and have the full support of my family, especially my wife... something I can take with me. I've always had a lot of passion for what OUR (yours and ours) men and women do to keep us safe and free, and I'll be thrilled to have the chance to give back. As far as safety goes, most of what I'll be doing will be right on the base itself. No one has been hurt on the base since 2005.

If I go, it will likely be in early Spring, possibly as early as May. I'll start a thread then... I don't wanna just up and leave my flock!

i like that picture...I wish you the best of luck on this!! How long would your deployment be?

Yeah no doubt, look at the japs. They messed with us (pearl harbor) and got it back 100 times over (hiroshima, nagasaki) but thats ok...what they did to the chinese (nanking) was enough to deserve it anyway. Ok i'm done being political for the day.

I rode my bike yesterday with no helmet, which is pretty uncommon for me (it is a security thing, like wearing my seatbelt), and the strangest thing happened:
While Going through my neighborhood at a relatively low speed (lots of kids), I heard tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick, pause, and repeat.

I haven't read enough about the ticking problem Jeff has, but I caught myself laughing thinking about it.

Jeff, even after we get it fixed, YOU will continue to hear the elusive "TICK"

Well, going on the first 'official' ride of the year in about 8 hours. Needing to finish some work to my bike really quickly, but had to come in for a beer break.

Well it seems like every time we try to do something on my bike we end up doing something else instead.

It turns out that we wired my 12v accessory wrong, the negative wire we put to the battery the positive wire we grounded, so the center of the plug was ground and the outside was positive (which is wrong).
So at least that is an easy fix, it was our intention to fix this today, purchased a fuse to put in line also.

But instead I decided I wanted to attempt to mount an old windshield I had here off my marauder on my bike. We had to modify it a little, cutting the plastic around the headlight a little wider and also had to bend the brackets a little but eventually we got it on the bike. It sits at the very front of the headlight and is pretty old and beaten up but it looks good on the bike......

Weather.com says it's 48 feels like 45F here but I'm going to head out on a ride now and see how I like the size of this shield, I would still like to get something newer sometime but for now this seems like it will work just fine.

We'll fix that accessory some day.

Pics of that shield would be cool! I always like to see creative ideas, one way or another you can always pick up a good idea!

Got back a couple hours ago from an all-day ride in beautiful southern Indiana. I regret not bringing my camera, but awesome ride through some serious twistys. As close to a perfect day as any. I may re-run the route specifically to take pics next month or so. I did get one with the crappy cell phone camera. This was during our rest stop at the Highway 58 Cafe.

I was up until 3AM working on my bike. Didn't get my tank back on right due to some broken hardware... more about that later. Thank God for zip-ties is all I can say!

Put the 165 main back in it... averaged 57.3MPG for the trip, and I was running it pretty hard
