The only experience that I have with the 500, is what I got yesterday.
I was on my way back home, and saw a guy pushing a motorcycle on the side of the highway, so I turn around and go back to see if I could help out. Turns out he's pushing a Vulcan 500 that he just wrecked about 1.5 miles back. I couldn't really tell he wrecked it just by glancing at it, and he'd been pushing it a pretty good lick. He said that since he crashed, he couldn't get it started. I asked if he had fuel, he said yes. I told him to put it on reserve and try it. He asked "what's reserve?"... Turns out he just bought it 2 days ago. I got out and looked. The petcock was at the off position, and he cranked it so much the battery was dead. I tried push starting him a couple times, but that didn't work, and I wasn't having fun pushing a bike 3 feet away from speeding cars, so I told him to push it to the next exit, and bring it to my garage right off from that exit. About 30 minutes later, he shows up. I gave him some water, and my neighbor, who owns 3 bikes, came over with a jump box. We got down to the battery, started it up, and he rode off about 15 minutes later. He said he's going to sell it. He's afraid of killing himself on it (he looked about 50 years old). I asked him if he'd taken a motorcycle safety course, and that's when he told me he was planning on selling it, and asked if we wanted to buy it. It's a early '90's model, real clean, and 2k miles on it, but he wants 2k for it. I doubt he'll get it, but good luck.

True about the mileage, that's a GIFT! Unfortunately, I just can't help you with sourcing parts... or how hard it is.

A crash will shake anyone up; some people never get back on. I did, but have to say I have been a bit scared of the bike since I dropped her. I think that long ride Saturday cured me though. Just what I needed

Has anyone ever had to touch up an "oops" spot on their bike?
A buddy of mine bumped my rear fender with his front and I have a baseball sized spot missing. I'm looking for a rattle can color match for the ever so common burgandy color 800 Classic. |

Well when I was out getting pictures, I got to twisting my throttle pretty good with the new needle and the proper idle adjustment. I'm freaking amazed at the snap power the bike has from cruising out of the apartment complex in first, to WOT... it almost feels like the front tire could come off the ground for a second. I haven't had it out on the superslab yet, or anything where I could go over 30 MPH, but ........... DAMN!
Jeff... Get to work!

Ya, that NEVER happens to me!!! I had one all picked out on Motorcycle Pro Shop, and I was actually going to ask YOU for a favour (remember when you offered to have it shipped to you when I mentioned they wouldn't ship to Canada? I was going to take you up on that!), and then as a LAST resort just before I was ready to PM you, I checked eBay one more time... BOOM! RIGHT HERE in Ontario, $7 shipping, NO DUTY!

Unfortunately no... I checked. Just a private guy, I'm not even sure why he was selling it or where he got it, but they were actual pictures of the actual chain, not stock pictures, and his feedback was perfect... I already have a tracking number!
BUT... Motorcycle Pro Shop is pretty good, only $20 more, that's what I was about to order. Here is the one I was going to get from them, it's exactly the same as what I got... If you DO order this one from them PLEASE let me know! I still need a master link and they don't ship to Canada! Or, maybe I'll just grab one from my dealer...

So I scored a bunch of stuff today, mostly from ebay.
I ended up getting the kawasaki lowers for the classic, I figure if the mounts work then I can always replace the plastic if necessary...they were a lot cheaper than memphis lowers. Also finally ordered the RAM mount for my Tom Tom. Ordered the remaining parts I lost along the way for my chatterbox. The helmet attachment disappeared so I needed to order that and also the extension cord for between two helmets. I purchased a cord so I can use it to listen to my ipod also (and previously bought the ipod remote so I can adjust the volume/pause the player while driving in town). Oh and a rear rack, matches my fire and steel backrest. My parent's have a T-bag setup that they won't be using on the Goldwing that I can use but I needed a rear rack in order to use it. All of that and still no seat lol.

So if I go with the mustang seat should I go studded or not?
I'm not really a studded type of guy but my bags have some on them and I think it looks decent with the classic look of the bike.....but I'm not entirely sold either way.

If you can get a Mustang seat on eBay for under $250, who cares if it has studs on it.... Can't beat the price
Now, if you have the money to spend. Get the 2 piece Wide Turing with driver backrest and forget the studs.. They are just 1 more thing to polish. |

I agree with you, if the price is under 250$ I'm taking it no matter studs or none. I've missed out on a few already and it seems to be haunting me. I could buy new but if I can buy used it'll save me some money for other stuff haha.
