Oh, I see. That's pretty unusual, so I'm not so sure that he is correct about that. PM sent.

It wasn't my major concern because I haven't noticed it causing any trouble. Is it a pretty easy swap out?

Has anyone else replaced the brakes? I'm really considering getting all the stuff and doing this myself, I have a manual and a very mechanically inclined friend that could probably help and save me a **** ton of money.

I figured since it was the first time I took the bike into the shop they would come up with a list of stuff I needed to have done, which is fine because I want to keep the bike in top working order.

Well, the adjustment isn't infinite... the cable has finite ends. But like rusty said, there are three places to adjust it... since I'm not in on the secret PM, you may know this already!

I've got 46,000KM on mine and haven't had to replace cables yet...

I did the rear brakes last year when they had the wheel off for new tires. Did the front brakes over the winter.

I really believe you can still adjust your clutch cable, it can't be anywhere near worn out at only 18K. The middle adjuster is under a rubber boot on the right side of the frame by the radiator. End adjuster is on the right side of the engine cover. Set the clutch perch adjuster about to the middle and use the other two to dial it in. Fine-tune with the adjuster on the perch.

Styling only, mechanically, nothing...

A:

B:

The A has a skinny, 21" wheel to the B's fatter, 130-16". The B's forks are wider to compensate, and have shrouds to make them look beefy.

The tail is sport on the A, Classic on the B. The seat cushion is a different pattern, but the seat pan is the same...

The headlight is 5" on the A, 7" on the B... The point of it all to make an overall beefier look!

Hmmm... not a lot else!

About the A and B 800's; I'm not really sure which I like better. Different style, and I would really like to have one of each

any place better than the others to get the chain online? What is the pitch? sprocket specialist is listing a 530-114 but I thought it was said in a previous thread that we need a 112 link chain.

I'm really thinking about getting this done by myself. I shouldn't have to remove the pipes correct?

They told me a chain would be 150$, a rear sprocket would be 50$, front is whatever, rear brake pad would be around 40$.

I should be able to find things considerably cheaper than that shouldn't I? I'm going to take the manual to work tomorrow and look it over and see what I think about the procedures.

none of this is very hard to do but you must remove the rear wheel, you'll need a jack or lift. I got my chain off e-bay, a EK , original manufacturer, pitch is a 530. I paid about 80 for a x-ring. Look up 530 chain on e-bay...You said your brakes were sticking before,, while the wheel was off did you have it looked at, I'm sure it just needed lube.

Yeah we have an ATV jack that I used when I did the oil change/changed the front sprocket before. It works nicely.

I mentioned the brakes to the mechanic before he replaced the wheel, afterwards he said that although the pad is not completely worn, there isn't really much adjustment left there to tighten the brakes up if they need to be down the road (After more use). He said he did lube/clean a little in there but figured they would need to be replaced eventually and a good time would be when the wheel was off.

How high does the bike need to be lifted in order to get the rear wheel off? I'm sorry for asking so many questions but as has been demonstrated, if I don't ask enough before I do something I end up asking a load of questions to undo whatever I got myself into.

530-112? <-- after much much searching I found CHAIN,DRIVE,EK50MV-OX112L listed don KAWASAKI parts diagram manual.....so 530-112 it appears to be. Thanks everyone! Not including new brake pads it looks like I can get everything I would need (chain, sprockets) for around $200.

Hey Wisc... the chain for the A model is 114, in theory because the fender allows for the rear wheel to be pushed back further... 112 is the chain for the stock gear ratio on the B Classic. When I change sprockets, I may have to cut out a link or two, but that's better than being short!

No... but that's easy anyway!

That's VERY expensive... I found my X-ring for $50, (which is much cheaper than I'll probably ever find another one... $80-$100 is more like it), the sprockets can be found for $30-ish and about $20 for the front... try Cheap Cycle Parts for comparison...

I rode my bike today It's probably going to get soaked out in the parking lot, but I couldn't take any more. After spending 3 1/2 hours washing and cleaning it about 2 1/2 weeks ago... well, I'm never washing it again!!! Makes it rain when I wash it.

Mustang seat; the 25min. ride to work isn't long enough so the jury's still out as far as comfort.
Riding position has changed DRASTICLY from my old Cobra seat. I am sitting further forward and way higher than I was. I do not know how that compares to the OEM because I never had it, but I am going to have to raise my windshield for sure.

The forecast for Saturday has changed THREE TIMES since yesterday... rainy, then sunny, now back to rainy again.

So once more... WHY DO THEY BOTHER????? (Jeff's gettin' upset...)

We have the stupid company picnic in Louisville tomorrow. My luck it won't rain and since I can't take the bike anyway... hey, I'm going to Louisville? DevilDogge, going to be down that way (in the friggin' cage) so maybe I can pick up those forward controls that I really need now since the seat change.

I was going to offer to ship him mine. It's not worth the price of shipping.

It's not worth the price of the cardboard box...
