Might it be saying 91 RON?

Octane ratings are a fun thing; there are three (ok, two, and a third based on those.) RON and MON are the actual measurements, while in the US the (R+M)/2 method is used, which is the average of the two. If memory serves, 91 RON is generally 87 in US method.

Hi all, I’m new to the forums. I picked up a ’96 Vulcan 500EN about 3 months ago for a great price and now I’m starting to look at add-ons. I was wondering if anyone could point me to a page or pages for taillights/turnsignals, Handlebars, Pipes and Saddlebags. Also, from what I have seen, there don’t seem to be any highway pegs for this model around… or the ones that were around are flimsy? Am I better off fabricating some stuff for the bike myself?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated, thanks!

Welcome Austin!

I don't think there are alot of aftermarket items for the 500. Maybe others can offer some direction here.

Yeah, unfortunately that's what I'm finding as well. I'm only looking for the most basic mods, because I love the bike as is (How could I not? I paid $1300 for a '96 with 7300 miles on it in MINT condition... the previous owner might as well have been a little old lady) and I'll probably keep it around after I get other bikes so I have a spare for friends to ride.

Appreciate the words though!

Exclamation Vulcan 500 hardcore

I live in Ottawa, Canada. I've had my Vulcan 500 '01 since 2001. I've logged over 53000km, too many road trips to count, Miami, Everglades, New Orleans, Texas, the entire Atlantic coast, Nova Scotia in snow......all solo you get the point. This is my first bike, its payed for, and it's high off the ground unlike any other cruiser which bottoms out as soon as you corner. I know cause i've driven most new ones having worked at a bike shop. My problem is the 2nd year the ehaust started to rattle on one sire, it got replaced under warranty, the next year the other side did it, i think it happened 3 times already, the extended warranty paid off i guess. Now its doing it again, it seems to just breakup inside theres loose stuff rattling around in it that i can shake out. What is this garbage, i like the bike but why does it come with disposible exhaust and you cant even get any aftermarket.....

What about the 900? Will it use unleaded regular without problems (the manual sez use premium)?

question - this is driving me nuts! - I could have sworn i heard somebody telling me about automatic wheels that come out of a bike when they come to a stop, this way the driver does not need to put the feet down. Am I going crazy or is this out there?

It's so tempting to tell you you're crazy but I won't. There's an outfit in Louisiana that makes a product called "Landing Gear." As far as I know, they're only made for 1500 Gold Wings. At under 15 mph, the rider pushes a button and the wheels come down. When you take off the wheels will automatically retract at 15 mph (I think it's 15, hard to remember). I have a friend who had a Wing with the Landing Gear and it was the neatest thing. He just parked and stepped off the bike. So put the Prozac away, you don't need it.
