Wisblue;
Yes, he was referring to the 'air cut valve' or carb slide as we say. The diaphragm is really really delicate. It's also really really expensive; about $90 but would cause some of the symptoms you are experiencing. Pretty common to have small pinholes in the thing. Basically, reamove it and hold it up to the light while stretching it gently. You'll see 'em if you have 'em.

Where have you ordered it? Do you have the clymers manual?

And wow, that part couldn't be more expensive!

Order from BTK, you'll get a discount for being a forum member. Nope, don't have the Clymer manual; have the Kawi service manual though. Yup, that part is pretty friggin' expensive!

Those V&H Cruzers on your bike now? From what I hear, they are some of the better sounding pipes for the 800.

I am running some old Cobra drag pipes with KromeWerks HP Plus baffles in them. They sound pretty good.

does your manual list what the part number is? There are two diaphragms listed in the parts list and then the vaccuum valve (which is the large part the needle sits in) and that is what I thought we were originally talking about.

I certainly don't want to order a wrong part if it gets to that.

Thanks again!

Don't have the part# handy, but I'll find it. Yes, it's the part the needle sits in.

Actually, they kinda look like crap since I wrecked my bike and scratched the chrome up pretty bad. Actually, they didn't look all that hot when I got them... but I painted them black so you don't notice all the dings and scratches from the pavement.

2" with KromeWerks HP Plus baffles (about $45/pair) and they sound 5X better than the Cobra baffles.
Khrome Werks

see that's where the confusion is, in the manual and on kawasaki.com it doesn't list that part as an diaphragm, the diaphragms are two smaller pieces, the accererator and something else I'm forgetting. I know what the piece you are suggesting looks like and I had the part number at home this morning...I just wanted to clarify before I ordered.

Thanks again.

Yea, kinda... as close as you're going to get anyway. "Sounds better than any metric I have ever heard" Is what some guys that work at the local Harley dealer said

That's the part # I thought it was, but the parts diagram doesn't list it as a diaphragm - the two listed are different. Jeez. Glad we got that figured out....now to decide if it's something I'm going to get....

RG, we're going to have to meet up sometime soon. I want to hear yours next to mine.... I haven't heard another 800 run in real life, whether it be stock or aftermarket exhaust. That way I can gauge how mine sound compared to an aftermarket exhaust.

well don't get it just to get it. Make sure you need it first. even if there is holes in it wolfs site tells you how to fix em the cheap way. if i was you I would check out the other two diaphragms on the side of the carb as well.
