I hit reserve at around 108-118 tops. I do most of my miles on the highway/interstate but during the week it's small trips around the city.

I'm like tkuligowski, I go 140 to 150 before reserve, you must be way rich, I'd check the diapham since I too have the same jets as you and am getting this mileage.

I have some city trips in my tanks as well. something else I would try and something I'm going to try as well is doing a full highway ride from one gas station to the next on a long highway. When me and my dad went to sturgis last year I got over 60 mpg every tank on the highway and I want to see if I can still get that.

My bike has consistently run out of main tank at 94 miles, and runs empty around 125miles. I bought used, so I never thought it was odd, but did think it was a little short on range, with the small tank. Now I have put on Hard Chrome shotguns, and have no idea what my mileage is now. I just fill up at 90 miles.

cool well welcome to the forum!! I'm jealous of your bike and you have two section for you. This one and the one below...800/1500 drifter.
That definitely seems a little low. I'm quite amazed in the difference in MPG's in the 800's it's crazy that some of us get 10-15mpg gallon better then others. I'm not sure what to tell you unless you feel like cracking open the carb. You ever checked the color of your spark plugs? That can give you a vuage idea of rich or lean.

Wow, this thread is really moving!
I have always got 48-55MPG with my current setup (50pilot/DNO106 needle/165main). If it was really windy out, my MPG has dropped as low as 46 and my best was 57.8MPG on a 150mile group ride in April this year. I bought my bike with carb issues, and I was getting as low as 38MPG then. Now that everything's right, 50-55; always. Well... I bought a Mustang seat recently that has raised my riding position several inches and I raised my windshield accordingly, and added a tailbag. I made no other changes. Now my MPG rarely cracks 50

Yeah it is, Jeff is gone this week or whatnot but I am seeming to fill the last couple pages with all my issues (whether they are really issues or not)

My milage is comparable to Wiscblue's. I get about 120miles on a tank before hitting reserve. When I fill up at that point I can *barely* squeeze in 3 gallons, sometimes not.
That puts me around 40mpg. Not bad, but not great. I have never tried figuring how far I can go on reserve. Does a windshield make the bike more or less aerodynamic? I wonder if that could account for the wide variances.

Yes, sure does. The size of the shield makes a big difference too, but I've always heard -5MPG for adding a shield.

I think the Donkey took the family camping this week so He might have some Tick issues again when he gets back.

so does anyone have suggestions for what I should do about my master link issue?
The chain came with a master link that needed to be riveted - I don't have and can't find a riveting tool to use and I'm guessing they are kinda pricey. it's a EK 530 SRX Quadra-link X-ring chain....I'd order a link online but the one on denniskirk doesn't seem to be the one I need.

Maybe it'll be pushed back. Harley dealer has a Diamond 530 clip-style master link part no. 40052-65 - Does that sound like what i need?

Have you got any independent shops ? I find it hard to believe you can't find a master link somwhere unless they only sell a whole chain set up. I don't know how big of town you live in up in WI. so it may be harder to fine than for some . Good luck ,Of course you could use the master link that came with the chain and get it connected as best you can ,possibly use a c clamp , hammer and punch to hold the link long enough to get by a shop that can do a better job of compressing the link. I've done that before in the past and it worked fine for the 10 mins it took to get to a shop .
