Welcome aboard bow! You're gonna get told, so let me be first... NEED PICS BEFORE WE BELIEVE YOU HAVE A BIKE!!!
![]() The choke operation is normal. Pulling the choke out causes engine acceleration. Having the choke out at start will cause fast idle, easing the choke back in will reduce the idle... And no, these bikes are NOTORIOUSLY cold blooded, and well documented on that! So far, I have no real reason to think this bike is running anything other than flawlessly! (IF there is in fact a bike!)

Bike is in excellent condition. Almost showroom clean...almost. Paid $2,500 for it. Does that sound reasonable? Good news on the choke and being cold blooded. What about the revving issue. Even warm, it takes about 3 seconds to settle down after being revved. That doesn't seem normal. Last edited by Bowbender : 07-09-2009 at 03:41 PM. |

Looks gorgeous... identical to one in the showroom of the local dealer, just saw it today! A great find! Depending on where you are, I'd say that's a great deal at $2500!
The revving... how are you SURE the cables aren't getting stuck? It IS 5 years old... the cables could be dry... but the air leak is a reasonable suggestion, carb boots can be dry too... How, and for how long did it sit? Did it have fuel in it? Was it stored? Where if the 737 miles come from, and when were they put on?

About the cables. I actuated the linkage on the carbs directly with my hand. I also shut it off and twisted the throttle and let it go and I could hear the familiar "snap" of the carbs. I suppose one carb could be lagging behind the other when closing, if that is even possible. I think it sat for at least a year with no real use. Given the miles, it hasn't really ever had use to begin with. Fresh fuel was put in it by the person I bought it from, but I didn't ask if it had been sitting around without being stored properly (stabil, etc...). We do however know the person we bought it from so I'm not worried about major problems as this person is picky about his equipment. It just so happens, he wanted to get rid of it and I picked it up very quickly before he had chance to do anything other than put new spark plugs in it and fuel. He did say that he put spark plug in it because it failed to fire on the old ones. I don't know if that is a clue or not. Also, it was stored in a garage. The miles are what I'm not too clear on. I think the bike saw little use after the initial 737 were put on. I've been hesitant to do anything to it until I get my service manual (which is in the mail to me). I think I'll take the tank off and go poking around the hoses and boots to see if I see anything. Thanks for your suggestions. Last edited by Bowbender : 07-09-2009 at 04:21 PM. |

Next best step, as with ANYTHING that sat for a while and may or may not have had fuel in it, it to get some Seafoam through the system... there is no shortage of praises sung here about how it cleans out a system.
Other than the possibility of the carbs being out of sync, I doubt there is anything, much less anything major wrong with it... it's brand new!!! For the most part, these bikes are bulletproof (unless you run 'em into a ditch! Sorry Brian, I owed you!) And we have a pretty good record on here solving anything that MIGHT be!

They remind me of intruders. I never really realized that they made 750's until I was on here and all. I think his is a 2001, so a couple years newer than mine. The Vstar I believe if a 03 or something in that area.

Also, stopped by Napa tonight and bought a bottle of Seafoam. Ran it for a few minutes tonight after adding some fresh gas. No big change yet, but I'm not expecting it to in just that short time. I'll let you all know what I find, if I do find anything. Thanks again for the pointers. |

OK.. You ARE new to the forum, so I will get you up to speed. Jeff is known on this forum for 2 distinct facts. 1. He is DONKEY. The lovable adopted mascot of the BTK forum. Do a search and you will find many threads dedicated to his lovable (Hat warring) Avitar "DONKEY" 2. Some time ago before Jeff hit 100 posts (I think), Jeff posted the following thread: Going in for service, this Tick is driving me nuts. This thread has lived and agravated everyone and kept poping back up for over a year. It took hundreds of people getting creative to solve this problem. A problem, I might add that I and a few other 800 riders also had, which was not the "all 800's are noisy" noise. If you should happen to have about 8 hrs free and would like a good laugh and cry, try reading the thread from the start. I for one, was 1 of the originals from the get go. ![]() |

Please, allow me to add the fact that by the time the ticking was solved, there were (and are) over 1,100 posts in the thread... yes, that's right, ONE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED posts because my bike was ticking (during decel) and it was driving me NUTS!!! Donkey... well... is there really any way to explain him?! So Bow... meet Donkey! (He has a lot of hats, but this is him!) ![]()

I loved the bobber thread. Is there a way to make a "no commitment" bobber? I would like the option to switch back at times. How easy is that rear fender to remove and install? What else needs to be done to mount the stock seat? |

Jeff's ticking noise drove most of us nuts... Good thing I was already nuts to begin with.
