Has anyone ever seen "shorty" open pipes on the 900. Can anyone give me a baseline backpressure that I might be able to cure with tourque cones, or screening in the pipe if I decide to break down and build a set? all info is appreciated

I have not seen it for sale anywhere locally. Definately not something you would find for sale at walmart anyway. Probably have to order it online; not easy to find in the U.S. If you do happen to find someplace selling Autosol, let us know.

Anyone have any tips for getting this oxidation off my shiny aluminum side cases???
It's just spots on top where some of the bolts are... Tried Meguiers polish to no avail.... hmm

Autosol is supposed to be really really good for that... but it's pretty hard to find.

A lot of people misunderstand the purpose of the octane reading.
Octane rating does not relate to the energy content of the fuel. It is only a measure of the fuel's tendency to burn in a controlled manner, rather than exploding in an uncontrolled manner. High performance engines (and most motorcycle engines larger than 1200cc) need the higher octane rating so that the fuel doesn't detonate before the piston reaches full compression. As you no doubt have heard, this creates that sound we've all come to know as "knocking." What happens inside the engine is what is important. The detonation of the fuel/air mixture before the piston reaches it's full compression results in an nasty shock transmitted down the piston to the camshaft. Over time, this can do serious harm to the engine. Putting a higher octane fuel in your tank than is required will only waste money. Since the design compression pressure isn't reached, the fuel won't burn completely in the cylinder, and you spew unburned gas out of the tailpipe, leading to backfires and exhaust pipe discoloration. Putting too low an octane in a big engine (besides the damage incurred long-term) means that the power stroke won't be nearly as strong as it should be, so you lose horsepower. The only ways to increase performance in an engine (without a rebuild) is either by altering the carb set-up (not applicable to fuel-injected bikes) or adding a blower (supercharger) or a nitrous system.

Most people here understand octane rating, but thanks.

Sorry, I was trying to respond to another post that asked that question and somehow my reply ended up here. I don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence, especially since mine is so easily insultable.
