I have 2 ninja 500s, same motor as yours. Used premium for a long time and was told reg is better, tried it and was surprised at high speeds.

Hello fellow mid-size cruisers!! New to the site and seen alot of action on here. Just want to post that I'm new to the v-twins and hope to see some other riders down here in southwest Florida besides big Road Kings who don't have the time of day for us metric riders. I've got an 800 classic and trash talked by a Harley on my way to Friday. Not so fun.
Small question for you folks. I'm 21 and I'm pretty good sized. Not so much weight but I'm 6'3 and 195. That's not too bad to be on an 800 is it? Feel plenty of power through the gears and I don't feel like I'm weighing it down, but I've gotten some criticism from people pretty close to me that say I look goofy on it.
It may be because my knees go up higher than say a 1500 but hey, can't complain about mpg's.
Are there other fellow tall people riding mid-size?
And I see support in here is huge compared to the 1000+ club.
these are from other friends trips, through Romania
Awesome pics marcelm =)
Mikey_D88,
I rode a 1995 VN800A for several years and I'm 6'3" 235lbs.
I did add aftermarket exhaust, intake mod and a rejet so the 800 really screamedNobody ever gave me crap about it, and it was pretty comfortable I thought.

That looks awesome Marcel!
I love that Trans***arasan road pic..impressive.
So, in which time of year was this?
In spring?
I would like to go touring in Romania one day, it's not very far.
The only problem is that I would need to go all the way through Germany, and the Gestapo is not going to like my exhaust overthere.
The summers are in general good overthere I heard.
Your Silvertails are exactly the same like mine.

thanks rusty, makes me feel alot less insecure about being a grizzly bear on a tricycle. haha. I was definitely surprised at the power of the bike for an 800. I actually never even rode it before i bought it due to having the cash without the license, but do have experience in my home state of illinois where you can get a learner permit.
any one have any thoughts about cobra exhaust? thats what was on the bike when i bought it and couldn't believe the growl and loudness of it. i always preferred V&H but i am glad i got to hear the cobra pipes firsthand.
LETS KEEP THE POSTS ROLLING!! DONT LET THE THREADS DIE!!!!
I don't generally ride above 104F. I'll give the Rotella T a try. Thank you very much.
Hi,
just search on google trans***arasan, I was there and is very wild and beautiful.
but in Romania you can find many beautiful landscapes that not so many people know. the reason is that the turism is not promovated as it should be. the trans***arasan is not the most beautiful one. there is many other places like TRANSALPINA, I wanted to go but I give up because is quiet difficult to go with an VN, more suitable is an enduro.
the picture is in the summer. the road (trans***arasan) in crossing Charpatians mountains and is open only few months per year(aprox july and august) because at high altitude is blocked by the snow.
the summer in Romania is hot, 25 - 35 degrees, june, july and august.
i lieve in Arad next to Hungarian border, if you come you can sleep at my house, this is no problem. the problem is that I want also to go touring but I have 2 small girls and nobody to take care of them durin my trip ...this is an open point
maybe you can do something with your exhaust during germany crossing, you can take the original ones or you can put something inside the exhaust. maybe I said a stupid think, but many big idea comes out from mistakes or stupid thinks...
Had Cobra's on my 800 and I thought they sounded really good.

i have a 900 cutom 2009 and it says 91 octane in the book. i do hear the fan when riding in city, but still moving not only at stop lights. my question is how does lower octane burn cleaner?
I also have the 09 900 Custom, actually my manual says 90 octane. But the pumps around here are either 89 or 91, so I use 91. The lower octane will burn faster and hotter which may cause spark knock or ping (very bad for engine). In my opinion, it's not worth the chance for the few pennies savings.
I have yet to find any reason on when the fan comes on. I was in stop and go traffic and the fan seemed to only come on when I was starting to move and shut off when I came to a stop. Go figure. Maybe if I had a real temperature gauge it would make sense.

Hi: I have a 2000 Vulcan 500 that has started to leak a dark red fluid on the left side around the location of the kick-stand. It's a thick greasy fluid that is mostly oderless. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? Thanks,
2000 Vulcan 500 LTD VROC # 8781
2008 Royal Star Tour Deluxe
The only red fluids I can think of would be either an over-oiled K&N air filter or possibly excess chain lube.

isnt the vulcan shaft drive, the 750 is, and if it is shaft drive may be a seal,
07 ZX14 Kawi Lime Green (32/50)
07 VN2000LT White/Ti
03 BMW 745Li
00 VW Beetle 1.8T
Not the 500, they use a chain... the older 500's were belt drive (pre-1995 IIRC).
