I read about the slide issues on the grampsizing paper I found. I’ll check the diaphragm and probably drill out the slide as you suggest as soon as I can.
I have an "opened but new" Stage One jet kit with the adjustable needle if you are interested. It has a 135 main jet in it. 130 was stock on my 800, BTW. I Grampsized it and pulled the smog crap off. Mine already had Cruzers on it, so with all that, I needed much bigger than a 135, so I just decided to sell the new jet kit. Let me know if you need it.

The adjustable needle is the part that you need most from the kit. If you do the Grampsizing and put better pipes on it, you will also want different main and pilot jets. They are only about $5 each at a bike shop though.

I thought the 800 stock main is a 135. Woody?

I have looked at all the parts the hubs are the same so the disc should fit, but the back of the swing arm looks a little different I guess because I cant really see how the caliper attaches to the swing arm. The other problem is making the current brake pedal work with the master cylinder vs the pull bar. Yeah you are right though its not going to be cheap, but the real question would it even be worth it.

Question why 18 and not 19...?

I have amn 18 tooth front sprocket on order. I see that woody and others have done this mod and some have changed the rear in addition to drop rpms even more. Why not go to a 19 up front rather than changing the rear?

I don't think I have ever seen a 19t front for the 800.

Like Blue mentioned ,haven't seen a 19 tooth or know of anybody that even makes one. I think the reason why is because of the clearance issue. When you put your 18tooth on you'll see there isn't much room left around your sprocket casing (maybe a 1/4" or less)

I just brought my new 800A home from the dealer on Saturday. About a ten mile ride. Temp in the high 80's, low 90's. When I got it home, the cooling fan ran for at least 5 minutes after I shut the engine off. Normal? I didn't think the fan would've needed to run since I didn't have the air conditioner on.
I have not had a chance to ride or test this since .

The fans tend to do that a few times when new. After you get a few 100 miles on the bike you'll notice that it won't come on as much . I haven't had mine come on in 2 1/2 years, but I don't live in the extremely hot part of the country either (but will soon). Congrats on the new ride now go out an enjoy it. I just got done (about 3 weeks ago) removing the epa junk off of a new 05 A for a neighbor an He likes the out come , It did away with the decelleration pops along with letting the bike run a few degrees cooler(something to think about).

Default Choke?

Day 3 with my new 2003 800 Classic - I loooove my new bike...

I've noticed that with the choke full on with cold engine, the idle isn't any faster, in fact it's very, very slow - so I'm keeping my hand on the throttle. Shouldn't it idle faster with the choke on? Or is it just a rich mixture to get it started?

Thanks!

Be sure to loosen the collar on the choke, then pull it out all the way and retighten just enough to hold it open. It will slowly release, or you can push it in in increments as the bike warms up.

I've got the choke open all the way, but it still requires throttle monitoring. Maybe it has something to do with the stage 1 kit? Or is there a fast idle setting that can be adjusted?

Actually it's not a choke ,it's an enrichener. When the bike is warm does it idle fine? you do have a knob to increase the idle under the intake. From what I'm understanding , when your talking about a stage one your saying that you've got aftermarket pipes with a jet kit? The intake is still stock? Without knowing what type of jetting the dealer or original owner has done it is gonna be hard to figure out the problem. we might need more info to help . like do you know if they used an aftermarket needle when doing the stage one? Plus some of your cold starts can be taken care of with a couple of adjustments ,but without know what all was involved with the rejetting(if it was done at all) it's gonna be hard to know which way to go from here. One thing I'll gaurantee is that if the dealer did the intake it's more than likely wrong ,especially if the stock intake is still on your bike.

If it is like my 01 800, there IS an idle adjustment and it is sort of hanging down behind the air cleaner usually. It is a flexishaft with a knurled knob on the end to adjust it with.
Start looking.

Has anyone found a solution to the cramped right foot peg due to the rear brake pedal being in the way? I have to hang my right foot out on the end of the peg or else it pushes the brake pedal down. I thought maybe someone made a different shaped lever that I hadn't found yet, or something. Maybe one that bends out in front of the peg and is positioned up higher, like the shift lever, so you can put your foot under it? Thanks!

Check out www.scootworks.com an look up the aftermarket pedal that they make. You could also go with aftermarket pegs with extensions on them (thats what I did),An then theres always swapping out to forward controls ,but that starts costing quite a bit more, Anywhere from a $150 to $600 depending on which brand you choose.
