Well, since it's been so quiet I'll bring up my saddlebag issue. The custom hard bags just aren't going to work that I wanted to make, so I'm going to buy some throwovers and probably mod them to work without the yoke. This is the set I really like
Saddlebags Problem is, it looks like the BOTTOM is 13" across, rather than the entire length being 13". Any way these would work without moving my stock turn signals? When I was measuring for my other ones, it looked like 11-1/2" to 12" was the max that would fit in there (without a slant). The weather for Sunday and Monday looks awesome. I may just have to charge up the battery. Do I need to disconnect the battery from the bike if I'm charging it with a float charger? Last edited by ohsoloco : 02-04-2009 at 07:04 PM. |

as for the charger, just charge it where it is no need to disconnect from the bike kenny

I was working on some new bags for mine, until I found myself in a bit of financial trouble. Every dollar counts now that I have to live on 2/3 of my income.
Thinking about modding (and re-dying) my current bags. Removing the yoke, and making some sort of semi-hard bags out of them. Saw something about that on the web somewhere. Going to ride this weekend... roads are crap, but I'm going crazy here.

Hey loco.... yes, charge it right where it sits, Kenny's got it right (usually does!)
The bags... that's a tough call, given the shape and the placement of the rear blinkers, but it looks like they would work. They protrude FORWARD, not backward, so they might be OK... but I think I'd get dimensions of all four corners to be sure. Nothing worse that trying to save money, then spending more to fix something that doesn't work... I got rid of my yoke too... ![]() I now wish I had gone with large instead of jumbo, because I think I'm going to have a hard time getting the rear dresser bars on that I got for Christmas, with my bags as far forward as they are... ![]()

I'm worried about my passenger as well. When I was messing around with making my own, I made some out of cardboard to test the size, and my fiance had a heck of a time getting on without hitting the bags. I really need the extra storage though. Also wanna get that sissy bar so I can get a pack to put on the back. I have a Tour Master duffel bag type thing that bungees to the luggage rack (came with the bike), but it just isn't enough room sometimes.

Looking back, I wanted the largest saddlebags that would actually fit on the bike... thought I'd get the most room I could. But now I find that for touring around and short runs, I'd be fine with one size smaller, which would let me put the dresser bars on. I can't get a laptop in them anyway because of the depth, so when I do bring my laptop home and back, I'm bungying it to the back rest in a separate bag anyway.
On longer trips, I'd automatically need a rack bag anyway, so it wouldn't matter if the saddlebags were one size smaller. Right now I just use a backpack and bungy that to the back rest, but I'd like a nice proper bag one day...

OK, here's my question, having thoroughly read (for the second time) BOTH the scooter and grampsizing docs...
Which would YOU choose, and WHY? And second... Wolf isn't shy to say that an aftermarket needle doesn't seat as nicely as the OEM, so what is the argument for changing it?

trick to the plug... small drill bit and a small metal screw... drill a small hole then thred in a metal screw... it will usually spin right out then... do not drill too deep as you will bugger up the a/f screw it self and need a new one
kenny

Kenny, you didn't answer the original question... scootersize or grampsize, and why?!
OEM needle or aftermarket needle, and why?!

HEY JEFF, I'M NOT MERCURY, BUT I GRAMPSIZED MY AIR CLEANER, EASYER TO DO, I LIKED NOT SEEING THE AIR FLITER AND KEEPING RAIN OUT, BUT MAINLY I LIKED THE OEM LOOK. LOOKS TO ME LIKE IT BREATHS GOOD, CUT OUT IN THE FRONT ACTS LIKE A SCOOP, BUT NOT TO NOTICABLE TO OEM LOOK. I LIKED THE S&S TEARDROP AIR CLEANER BUT I'M NOT SPENDING $200- $300 ON ANY AIR CLEANER. I'M NOT SURE WHAT WOLF MEANS ABOUT OEM NEEDLE FITMENT, I HAVE A COBRA JET ADJUSTABLE, SEEMS TO WORK FINE, BUT I DID READ (AND do) ABOUT NEEDLE BOUNCE, NEEDLE FITS LOOSELY IN SLIDE, BUT IS SOLVED BY PUTTING A WASHER ONTOP OF C-CILP TO TAKE UP SLACK, C-CLIP ALONE IS NOT AS THICK AS OEM'S HEAD. I LIKE THE ADJUSTABLY OF THE AFTERMARKET NEEDLE, MANY HERE RUN THE C-CLIP IN 2ND GROOVE, I FOUND MY BIKE RUNS BETTER WITH A WASHER UNDER C-CLIP ALSO, ALSO HELP TIGHTEN AGAINST BOUNCE. I GUESS YOU COULD SHIM THE OEM NEEDLE, I'VE NEVER TRIED. HOPE THIS HELPS, COS
