For info
The ignition relocation mod for the EN500,VN800 and VN1500 are partially posted on Paul Andreasen's Motorcycle Mods Page.
The whole mod and kit aren't done but you can see what they will do and look like. We found out the same kit will fit the above bikes as they use the same console parts!

Does anyone have a link or a full copy on CD of the maintenance manual for a 2005 Vulcan 1600 classic?

I know when I had my ZX-12 I was able to find a free copy and I prinited out the whole thing into a nice binder and would like the same for this bike.

I searched the forums and found a couple but they were dead links. Any help would be welcomed.

Thank you,

Mike

I can maybe send you one on CD if you PM your address to me. It will be a while though because my PC is down and work is crazy for the next few weeks at least so I am just using my wife's PC to access email now and then until I have time to get it working right again.

OOPS! PM me, not my wife....

I have the Metzler 240 on the rear with just over 10K miles on it and ready for replacement and a ME880 on the front that I replaced my Bridgestone with at 6k and I'm very happy with both; especially the mileage I got out of the rear. We'll see how the front does in the long haul.

That is very encouraging! I only got 6500 miles on the stock Bridgestones.
Merry Christmas

Is that on the stock setup? DId you have to changed anything on the bike to get the tire to fit, or was that just a straight tire swap?

Our beloved Rogues will accept up to a 240 rear tire with no modification which the dealer installed on mine before I bought it (very common mod). You can do up to a 250 series but you'll have to cut some of the inner part of the belt guard so the tire won't scrape. I wouldn't go any larger than a 240 though as the bigger you get the handling becomes compromised; obviously with an 850lb bike, you don't want that. Most like myself go for the Metzler ME880 XXL on the back and if you're like me have the matching Metzler for the front. After seeing the longevity of my rear tire (over 10K) I was very encouraged about buying the front to match since my Bridgestone was cupping horribly and lasted about 6xxx miles. Hope this helps.

Question kawasaki vn1500 clutch fault HELP PLEASE

Can you help with a problem in my 7/95 vn1500 clutch ?
I am a new commier to this fourum and i am usure who or where to ask for assistance. If you are not the corect preson please post this for every one to see as i am unsure how to do that.
I live in Tom Price Western Australia and there is limmited motor bike mechanics at my disposal.
I have been chasing a skipping fault in 1st gear and one person sugested that it may be a clutch fault.
I have dissasembled the clutch and replaced the fibers, they were soaked over night prior to installing. Whilst i was inside there a previous person has fitted an extra back tourque limiter spring and roatated them so the inner two are both concave and the outer two are convext (()) I reassembled it the way it came apart even though the manual said differtly ( I questioned a Kawasaki dealer mechanic and he said to refit it as it came apart) on the test ride they were not releasing corectly and sliping so i then pulled it apart again and filled out the minimal lips inside the basket,(lightly) sanded the steels, changed the oil and filter and fitted the washers as per the manual pictures show )().
When i reassembled the bike and test rode it the 1st time usage was 100 % but within 1 min of usage i have ended with this....... whilst stationary i can squeeze in the clutch lever and eaisly go in and out of gears, when i attempt to set off i have normal feel of the clutch lever but when i get to 1/3 release the clutch is fully engaged with NO slow take up this is a all or nothing clutch
it has thrown me off side ways once and is very spooky to ride.
I took it to a motor bike mechanic (so he says) for a second opinion he was in total disbeleif of my discription (that was untill the test ride) he then confured with a bike mechanic mate in Perth and came to the conculsion that the springs and washers were u/s i have since ordered and replaced these and the fault is still the same. i have spoken to the Kawasaki dealer that have supplied all my parts, the 1st time the mechanic was unsure of the clutch sytem in the vn1500's and said to asseble it as it came apart not as the manual shows and the second mechanic i spoke to two days ago sugested to blead the hydraulic system even though i have not touched it.
Have you or any one else heard of this problem and is so how can i fix it?????
ps: the skipping apears to be a missing tooth on 1st gear inside the box.....

Thanking you in advance.

have you changed the lights to L.E.D.s ?
they use less power and the flasher can needs to be replaced to suit the new lights
if not and they stay on the flasher can (flasher unit is stuffed) they are located behind the side cover located below the seat on the side of the bike.

not positive on your clutch problem, but if i recall, all of the clutch springs are supposed to go the same way. i would definitely go by what the manual says, NOT how the bike was. i am surprised the mechanic said that to you. also, by added the extra spring, you are stiffening up the clutch and most likley making for a quicker engagement. these hydraulic clutches don't have a lot of play to begin with and engage pretty quick, so added that extra plate probably made it worse. personally, i would try to put the springs in the proper way first and then remove that extra one if you still don't like the results. then again, i'm not mechanic either

as far as LED lights go. most kits you get will come with a load equalizer which adds a little more load to the system so that they flash properly. if you bought separate lights or a kit that did not come with one, you can purchase one. Kuryakyn sells them pretty cheap.

Rolling thunder and Kwikbolt,

I'd bet the noise you're hearing is just the normal sounds of significantly worn 'stones. Rear tires wear flat on the bottom, so when you look at the radius of the curve you'll see "bumps" where the tread pattern stands proud. Front tires wear more on the left side naturally, thus more noise when banking left. See Mr Gadget's website for a much better explanation.

In short, live with the noise 'til you need to replace your tires, and then I'd recommend Metzler 880's They sure improved the all weather handling of my 1500 Classic.

Cheers for the reply, i have tryed the wrong way as it came apart plus as the manual and a down load pictures show that is different to the way it came apart but these all have brought no joy.
Will try any thing to fix the bike, as today was a great day for a ride i am missing out, it is now summer in Western Australia and had a majic day for a ride at 41 deg celcius .......

thank you
