Default Exhaust

I have a bolt that is messed up on the left side of the engine on my 96 vulcan 1500. I was just wondering if those bolt came out or if I am stuck replacing the engine. Thanks

what bolt ? if you go to Kawi's site, you can get a parts breakdown of the entire bike. you should be able to select the part of the engine that is in question and see if you can purchase the bolt. that will at least tell you that it IS removable. then you just have to figure out how to remove it.

Bob
if you look around, i am sure you can find a set of floorboards with heel toe shifting. if not, then the factory units off of a 1500 Nomad should bolt right on. the Classic and the Nomad are very similar bikes.

Default Brakes locking

Just curious, we went for a ride on the Nomad up to Leesburg, parked backing in slight slope. We walked around for several hours. When we came back the Nomad would not move. The engine started fine, went in gear tried to surge forward and stopped. We think one of the brakes locked. Jiggled everything. Finally Glenn man handled the bike forward about 12 feet. Something loosened up and we were fine.

Just a thought, is this common? What would cause it?

Hey everyone. I'm new to this site and to vtwin bikes. Always had 4 cyl. I just got a 1994 Vulcan 88 1500A. Just wondering about some possible nice add ons, like exhaust and controls. Is any of this stuff available for this bike anymore? Can;t find anything for it in the aftermarket books./

i am not familiar with the older Vulcans, but i have to believe there are items out there to be had. a good place to start is Dennis Kirk. you can put your bike in and everything they have for it will come up.

well, depending on the taillights of the trailer, you may need an electronic taillight converter to change the signal from a 3 wire system to a 2 wire system. the bike has a separate brake light from the turn signals and most trailers will be like a truck and the brake and turn signal wires will be shared. on my Nomad, i mounted the converter under the seat and then ran the wiring down the rear frame tubes that hold the hardbags. with the Classic you don't have that option. i would run the wiring under the fender next to your factory wiring. i changed the trailer plug connectors to a 6 pin round, from the 4 pin flat. this allowed me to mount the bike side right to the hitch so that i had no wires hanging loose. if you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for the hose routing for a 1991 Vulcan 1500cc. I foolishly disconnected a few without taking pictures. While the fuel lines seem correct, I'm not 100% sure I got the vacuum and air breather lines right.

Any help would be appreciated. I bought the bike used and have a Clymer manual but not the original and the guy who I bought it from didn't take great care of it so I've been trying to replace what I could. The fuel lines (mostly) were cracked and dry-rotted and I just went from there.

i can only offer two suggestions. one, check Kawi's website. they might actually show where the vacuum lines need to go, but i am not sure. second, pick up a factory shop manual, that should definitely help you out. beyond that, i am stumped. good luck with it.

hi Goose !

this question gets asked more times than i can count, and i give the same answer every time. when you are talking about cruisers, the size of the motor means a lot less when compared to the skill of the rider. a cruiser's power band is very tame and easy to manage. that said, you already have riding experience, so i would not even worry about the size of the motor. shop around, sit on some bikes and see what feels comfortable. i'd say you would have no problem with a 1500, you just have to get used to the size. i was worried about the size of the Nomad when i bought mine in 04. i was coming from a 750 Honda Magna and i am not a big guy. you get over the size pretty quick and pretty soon you forget about it. go ahead and sit on one and if you like it, buy it.

Goose! Depends on your size. I was a brand new rider so I rode an HD Sporty 883 for 6 mo before I bought my 06 V2K. I'm 6'3" and 220lbs so needless to say the HD was a lil cramped 2 up. I no longer own the V2K b/c 2 days ago I bought an 07 ZX-14, but I can say after 2 full years of problem free ownership and 11,000 miles, I absolutely loved that bike and were I affluent enough I would still have both in the garage. That way I'd have the largest displacement cruiser and sport bike Sit on all of them and which ever one hugs u the best, go with that. If you like rides like the Iron Butt a buddy of mine swears by the 1600 Nomad for the long haul. Also, there's no replacement for displacement. Cheers!

Likewise after riding my 79 1000 Sporty and at 5'8'' and 185# when I threw my right leg over my 1500FI Classic and saw that huge tank and fat front tire.... I thought much to big. After a quick spin it is just right. Love the Sporty but it is like riding a rototiller. Two different state of mind.
