Thanks for the info guys...I'm about 5'10 175-180. I might keep the F4i and trade in a 06 Ninja 250...then again maybe trade both and hopefully get a cruiser on the cheap

Decisions, decisions...sort of hard to walk away from the power of a CBR though lol

I have a 2003 Suzuki Intruder 800 and I am thinking about getting the 08 Kawasaki 1600 Mean Streak. However, I have read several reports about it being down on power. Can anyone comment on this. Anyone own one of these bikes? I don't need "Busa" speed but I don't want a slug either. Thanks, ljackso.

New here, looking for info on the 08 Mean Streak. I heard it was underpowered but handled well. I don't need "Busa" speed but I don't want a slug. I just want to outrun my brother's new 1100 Shadow Sabre..LOL

as far as the other "power cruisers" are concerned, the Meanie is a bit underpowered, but it will outhandle all of the others, ie. Honda VTX, Yamaha Warrior and Suzuki M109. that said, with an intake, pipes and a power commander, my Meanie runs pretty darn close to my buddy's VTX with the same mods. the Meanie really isn't that much slower and still has PLENTY of power, especially with those mods. you will definitely be happy with it, especially coming from the Intruder 800.

Hello,
I ride a 2005 Vulcan 1600 Classic.
The problem I have is with the factory mounted passenger pegs, and the floorboards I purchased. Both end up mounted to high, and to far to the rear of the bike, making it extremely uncomfortable for the passenger.
Have you encountered this issue before, and what if any was the solution?
Thanks
Doug

hi Doug. you might want to start your own thread in the cruiser section, it will get more attention than just posting on here. go to the main forum index, scroll down to the cruiser section and open it up. on the left, just above the list of threads you will see a link to start a new thread or a new topic. click on that, type what you did here and then click submit. that will open a totally new thread that should get you some kind of answer. good luck and welcome to the forum.

Default Totally Inappropriate?

Hey guys, nice to meet you.

I'm 27; 6'2" 215 pounds and I've never owned a bike before and have no experience.

I do however, have a job, and am happy to pay for the (soon to be required) basic driving course. (I’d take the advanced, too, after I buy my bike)

My question is this:

Would it be inappropriate for me to go out and buy a Vulcan 1500 / 1600 cruiser for my first bike?

I would probably buy new, and I'm not really interested in constantly switching up models. I would consider the 900 if you don’t think I'll get bored of it.

I live in Florida, so the weather is always bike-able. I would use this as both City / Highway travel but would love to start taking some trips with a bike.

Is it too much bike for a newbie?

no, it is not too much bike for a newbie as long as you have sat on it and feel comfortable with the size. the 900 is a great bike and i can't say whether or not you would get bored with it without knowing your riding style or what you intend to do with it. there are plenty of members on here that are very happy with their 900's and may never change to a larger bike, it is all personal preference. i say go sit on both and see how they feel. lift them off the kickstand and get a feel for their size and weight and go from there. whatever you do, be careful and ride safe.

HELP!!
I have recently gotten a 96 vulcan 1500d. I had to remove the carb to clean it. when i went to put it back on, i noticed and t connection in the coolant line, behind the carb. 2 of the t connectors go inline with the coolant hoses, the 3rd is a "brass" fitting looking thing with 2 rubber o-rings on it. It seems to seep coolant out the tip. I have no clue what this is....or where it connects to. Any help is appreciated.

Ernie, you should probably post a new thread in the cruiser section or the mechanics corner, it will get a lot more attention that way. i'm sure someone has the answer for you.

New here, ride a 1600 Vulcan Classic, one year of riding and 20,000 miles.

I started a thread about replacing the headlight on my bike, if anyone knows how to do that, I would appreciate it.

I know, its most likely easy, but I dont want to break anything..

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. The box you speak of is the catalytic convertort, fondly called "the goat's belly" and there are ways to either remove or gut it, so to speak.
If you want to remove it, take your exhaust off the bike and take the whole thing to a qualified exhaust shop. They should be able to remove it all-together, and fashion a bypass to re-connect the open tubes.

Their are also methods to gutting the goats belly.
Goat Belly Gutting

Have fun, and post up some pictures of that ride!

yes you can. there has been talk of driveline damage if you are hard on the throttle with that much rubber, but a 240 will mount up to the stock rim and to the bike without any issue.
