Hey kwickbolt,
my 96 VN1500 Service Manual illustrates the Turn Signal Relay under a bracket just behind the battery. Check the bulbs first before tearing into the nuts n bolts!

Bestaluck!

Gear clash VN1500
'96 VN1500... Gear clash on shifts, wonder if oil viscosity could be a factor???
I don't think it would be typical of the '88, but most folks know more than I do about this model....
thanks!

if you don't get an answer from here, post a new thread in the cruiser section and you should get one right away.

IF you drain all the oil out from all 3 plugs, (DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN 3rd PLUG), it is 5.5 US qts. Then maybe ollow the standard oil checking procedures and make sure of where it is.
BTW,I may have a pdf file somewhere of the owners manual.
Let me look tomorrow and I will let you know if I have it and then get your email to send it to you.

Kim

PS Congrats on the 06 V2K (I have the same year. Is yours a Classic or Std.?) and welcome to our form!

Default mileage drop

I have a 1600 classic with 1921 miles on it my last tank of gas I got 113 miles on it the one before that 136 miles while break in it in I was getting 244 miles to a tank. Filling it up pretty much when the light low fuel light came on. Of course this is happening right before my first Sturgis run. Plugs look good, tire pressure good, air filter looks good, had the break in tune up done right at 600, oil level correct that is all I could think of checking. I also have had a chirping noise start about a month ago, starts after about 5 miles happens at 20-25 in first, 30-35 in second, 40-50 in third, 50-55 in fourth, 65+ in fifth, I can get it to do it in neutral also. My neighbor said it sounded like the Jetson's spaceship. Also the place I bought it from cant look at it till the 12th so I trying to get some help to make the trip.

Cool Noisy Transmission

I Have A 2007 Vulcan 2000 Classic Lt. It Makes A Loud Clopping Or Chunking Sound Whenever It's Shifted Through The Gears. I Bought It Used With 2700 Miles And It Still Has Over A Year Factory Warranty. I Took It Back Where I Bought It, Which Is At A Kawasaki Dealer And The Head Mechanic Said This Is Normal On The Vulcan Bikes. He Said It Would Get Better As I Put More Miles On The Bike. Sounds Like Hog Wash To Me. Do I Need To Take His Advise And Live With It, Or Take Further Action With The Dealer? Thanks For Any Responce Or Someone With The Same Problem.

the Vulcan line has always been known to have noisy shifts. if it bothers you, put some pipes on and you won't hear it any more
seriously though, it is normal to hear some clunking.

Switch to synthetic oil, it will make a big difference. But it is normal.

mine clunks too..... often though, if you change at exactly the right revs, it doesn't make any sound..... but 99 1/2 times out of 100 it clunks doesn't bother me any.

My brother has a 1998 Vulcan Classic 1500 and likes the heel and toe shifter I have on my new Vulcan Classic 1600 but he can't seem to find one for his bike either from Kawasaki or any after market Mfg. Does anyone know if anyone makes one for the 1500?

you can definitely find one out there for it, or just bolt on one from a Nomad. look at Dennis Kirk for some options of what's out there.

There was some question about certain concerns with 2nd gear on older 1500's. I saw that someone said that there were no known issues. In my experiance I have heard of many concerns with 2nd gear issues, such as not staying in gear and grinding. What is your opinion?

first to second shift is the one that you need to make sure is planted. the bike will pop out of second if not put in solidly. as for grinding, not that i have heard. i am on my second 1500 and have had no issues with either one.

Default Classic Mistake

I have a 1996 Vulcan Classic 1500. I just installed a new battery backwards. Don't ask how because the only response I have is "Things Happen". Now the bike is completely dead. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions?

Look for the main fuse and it will be blown. Usually under the seat somewhere or behind the covers but not in the fusebox. That is why there IS a main fuse and it protects the system from "$htuff that happens"
