its all about what you want out of the bike. the Nomad has everything but is heavier and stays fully loaded all the time. depending on how you build a classic, you can make it convertible for short cruises pretty quick. i personally prefer the Nomad because of the hard bags, but it is a lot of bike to just run to the store on.

Any thoughts???? Oh.. I was also looking at Suzuki's New M109R, which will probably be named Cruiser of the Year... but my local dealer is definitely a Kawa bigot... and swears by them.

Thanks. Irv
I did post in your other thread and if you like a sleek look while riding in town you might want to look at the 1600 as you can add a removeable windshield and saddlebags for the times you want to have your bike less bulky. If you don't mind the look of a loaded cruiser you can simply leave it on. Of course the other choice would be to look at the Nomad as it's fully dressed already. I bought a 1500 Classic and dressed it the way I wanted but still spent some $$$ to get it that way. Also, if you don't mind buying a used bike...take a look at them also as some will have aftermarket parts added already so you can save $$$ that way.

Wink First Scratch!

Well has this hapened to anyone else yet. There I was enjoying my ride on my 2005 Vulcan 1500 to work on a crisp Wednesday morning. 4-12-2006 to be exact riding about 30 MPH when I hear this snap then an awful rattling vibration. Well I was a little more than concerned first grabbed the bars a little tighter and waited to see if anything was going to fall off. I was in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic no place to turn off had to ride about another mile and half before I could dismount and there it was! I had not expected that but there where by rear directionals hanging and banging against my beautiful black rear fender. took the paint off to the metal. I thought well that just sucks and could be expensive. But Kawasaki dealer did me good. they are going to replace my entire rear fender under warranty.
I thought for sure I was going to have to hide it with an adhesive graphic. So all is well but I suggest you get out some lock tight and a 10 mm wrench and secure those bad boys seems it is a common problem.

first i've heard of them coming loose, i know there is a fix on gadgets page to grind down the metal spacer a bit so that they bolt up tighter than they come stock.

good dealer you have

Funny thing I read about the fix that night simply stumbled across it by accident. too little to late I guess.

Default The First 100 Miles

Picked up the new ride on Saturday. New '05 1600 Classic. Kawa calls it beige, but as many of you noted when I posted pics when it was still at dealer, it's really 'Titanium'. Yeah... that's the color. And in the sunlight, it just glows... or is that me that's glowing. And yes, there are three new pics here, one with my wife aboard. Well, after 30 years of being out of the saddle, I had a ball this weekend. Local rides, mostly back roads. Because the windshield was delayed in arriving, I got to feel the wind the way it is meant to be felt for the first time in a long time.

When we picked it up, my wife actually got a helmet (surprise) and she's been up with me twice. Still says she's a little nervous, but enjoyed the feeling of being one with the environment. I know she'll get more relaxed the more we are up.

Can't say enough for all of your wisdom and support during this adventure of researching bikes. I could not be more pleased with my purchase. Even got the last of the '05's and saved another $1500. BTW, anyone in southeastern Mass/RI area looking for a new ride, check out MTR Racing in Woonsocket (Kawa/Suz/Honda). They are FANTASTIC!!!!

What kind of riding groups have you run into (bad choice of words?) in Mass? I'd like to meet some folks for some group rides. Any clubs you are aware of?

Thanks,

are you a member ? you are in the southeast, so i think there are a few members near you. they usually have some decent email activity and seem to try to get together rather often.

fiannly got my brand spanking new rear fender installed by my dealer after the light bar incident. nice shiny and new. think I will be checking the bolts on my rear lights on a regular bassis. don't think I will get another fender for free.

may I suggest that you buy some slightly longer bolts?...or isn't there enough room to do that?
