I'm one of the few it seems that likes apes. I say that because most of the people I mention it around snarl. I'm thinking hard about some 16" apes (it seems they have to be at least 16s to actually look like apes) mounted in my factory Classic risers.
I've really been thinking alot about this....of course I need to replace the cables, and I guess extend the wiring?? Any pros and cons? Help me make up my mind

The only advice I would have is if you like apes go for it. Forget what other people think. You're the only one that has to ride it or like it. Good luck and go for it!

I say do it. It's one of the many things on my to-do list. After my bags, I don't know if I want the apes or a fairing.

I think apes look good on the right bike.

I have never been into ape hangers, but I do not have to ride your bike and don't own it so who gives a crap what I like...... If you like them you should put those bad boys on there and enjoy them. I am sure I have done things to my bike that people hate and I don't care.

I love my 16" apes on my 900. I got the 16" Kong bar and put them on 2" risers. I'm 6'3" and they sit perfect shoulder level.
I did mine for different reasons than most though. Mine wasnt for a look(that was the added bonus). I have had problems with my lower back since i was a kid. Being taller, I had to slouch to be in a comfy riding position. Even so, after an hour or so, my back was screaming. After talking to a few members and sitting on one that had apes, the position felt great. I go on trips hours long at a time now with no problems whatso ever. I ride mine nearly daily on the interstate for 30 miles(one way)going to and from work. Just like anything else, just get used to it first and you will be fine as long as you dont get them bigger than you need. It took me about 15 minutes to get used to mine. i rode around my dads old property before i got on the road with them. then went up and down the street once comfortable......Then tore out on the road and never looked back. haha. |

Well I listed my stock 900 bars on eBay (I replaced them with narrowed bars from a Classic) and the bid is over $60.00. I'll probably use that to get some apes. I'll bolt them up, if I don't like them I'll just resell them.

That's my dilemma as well. I know I want wider apes. Don't really like the look of the narrow ones. Plus it feels like I'd have more control with my hands out wider. Never ridden with them. Just from sitting on one it feels that way.

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous riding posture Or to raise arms against a sea of backaches And by opposing end them "There comes a time in the affairs of man when we must take the bull by the tail and face the situation."
