Default Quick Question about engine guard and highway pegs

I just installed an engine guard on my bike that I had ordered. The site said it was 1 1/4 inch and in reality it is 1 inch. The issue is that I also ordered highway pegs to mount that haven't arrived yet. And of course I ordered 1 1/4 inch mounts for the pegs based off what the site said about the engine guard. It is the following set:

Kuryakyn Dually Footpegs with Offset Mounts and 1-1/4 inch Clamps - Pair

It is the large wing looking ones. Will I be able to mount these on my 1 inch bar even though I have the 1 1/4 inch mounts? Is there a way to fill in the gap? Or should I order the 1 inch mounts?

    Thank you,
    Kevin

I'd call the place you got the engine gaurds from. They should be able to tell you why their 1 1/4 inch bars only seem to be 1's.

Not to sound weird, but which engine guard is it, and how did you measure the bar? It's pretty easy to miss a 1/4" on the diameter of a round tube without a good set of calipers.

This site is where I ordered it from and the site shows it being 1 1/4 inches.

ENGINE GUARD from Kawasaki Full-Line Accessories

The engine guard looks exactly like this one listed here on Ebay.

eBay Motors: Kawasaki Vulcan 88 SE 1500 L Engine Guard Crash Bars (item 130252051801 end time Sep-03-08 10:12:49 PDT)

When comparing the engine guard to my 1 inch handlebars, they appear to be very much the same.

Anyway, comments and suggestions are welcome.

NCDave - I did contact the people I ordered the engine guard from. Waiting for a response now.

    Thanks guys,

Glad I can help with your post counts...

You'd have a hard time, and probably wouldn't be too happy, with filling in the 1/4" gap... much better off with the proper brackets... and as mentioned, if you paid for 1-1/4, you should be getting 1-1/4, or a rebate!

The Ebay one is a 1" bar. My guess would be they sent you the lower model
#028B. As far as help with the pegs...I'm useless.

Should have added... I've seen this done. The guy that did it used a bicycle inner tube and filled the gap in with enough layers of that to make it tight... it's didn't look at all good, defeats the point of having nice chrome components, and PROBABLY moves with the pressure of your feet over time. You'd likely be aware of that and try not to put full pressure on your pegs, which means you'd be distracted and uncomfortable... it's not worth it! Fix it now while you can!

Yeah, I went ahead and ordered the 1 inch mounts. And also have a call into the place I got the engine guards from. I'd atleast like some sort of compensation for their misadvertisement.... I had to spend an extra $52 because they advertised incorrectly on their site. Now $52 is a drop in a bucket (when compared to all the other mods), but it is the idea behind it all.

    Anyway, thanks for the comments.

    Take care,

their ad is a bit misleading in that they didn't show the model for your bike but showed pictures of the other two that look to have a larger bar. There is no additional detail for the 28A model, nor that it's only 1 inch. I'd be tempted to send it back, but that is probably the style that you'll find for your bike, so if you like it, just get 1 inch pegs for proper fit.
