Default HELP! 900 Won't Start

2007 Vulcan 900

I got caught in a heavy rain storm the other day and ran through some pretty deep water that splashed up pretty heavily on the bike. I made it home safe and parked it. I let it sit for a day and then today I went to start it and it won't fire up.

I put the key and turn it. I hear the FI starting to advance the fuel but then it makes a clicking sound (but I think all the dash lights look normal). When I push the start switch nothing happens. No noise like it's trying to start or anything.

Anyone have any ideas. There is still gas in it, I double checked.

Are you sure it is in neutral? I had that happen to me once.

I thought I was the only to overlook that. It happened to me once. I also had a problem starting it once because I didn't flip the kill switch. Man, that made me feel stupid.

Don't let it bother you! I worked computer tech support for over 7 years. We learned right up front that it's the simple things most folks miss.

I always put my bike in neutral when I park it. The one time I didn't, it took someone else to point out the fact that it wasn't in neutral when it wouldn't start. Since I "always" left it in neutral, I never checked

Enjoy the day!

The neutral safety switch is only operable when the side stand is down. You should be able to start the bike in any gear with the clutch pulled in and side stand up. We have all made the same mistake so you are certainly not alone!

Worst case scenario would be that the starter got soaked and caused an internal water damage to it. I do hope that it is as simple as the bike is on gear or the kill switch is is opened.

Yeah, I normally always put it in neutral when I get off. So I just assumed it was in nuetral when I was trying to start it...

I was worried that something got damaged in the severe rain storm I rode in and automatically started thinking something serious was wrong rather than to just check the normal things.

But she is still running like a champ!

Thanks everyone for the help and the sympathy.
