For my birthday I treated myself with V&H Slash-Cut Staggereds for my Vulcan 900 Custom. Was planning on putting them on this weekend but after talking to some people I have some concerns. I thought I read on the board just the pipes shouldn't require any EFI tuning, only when doing the pipes and intake. I am fine putting them on and if it isn't running right picking up an FI unit. My concern though is someone told me if it isn't tuned correctly the possibility exists the pipes may start to "blue".
Obviously this would suck. Any one that has experience with this I would love some advise? Also any tips on the actual installation would be great.

Can't speak for V&H but I've been running Cobra dragsters for months with stock intake and no FI (until recently) and had no ill effects. Hypercharger on back order
I did marble the intake immediately however due to decibel popping.

I installed my V&H Slash-Cut Staggerds on my 900 about 3 weeks ago. I installed my PCIII and Arlen Ness Big Sucker a few days later. I got my PCIII from fuelmoto. Jamie pre-loaded a map for my setup, so I am confident it is "tuned" correctly. I washed my bike about a week ago and did notice a little blue effect where the pipes bolt to the engine. I only noticed it, because I was being very detailed about the wash. I don't know about the pipes being blue anywhere else, because the heat shields to a great job of covering the pipes. These pipes have the V&H anti-blue technology, so they are not supposed to blue. However, that doesn't mean they won't.
I don't think anyone can say with certainty that the pipes will or will not turn blue on your bike. I can say that you cannot see the little bit of blue I mentioned, on my bike, unless you are looking very closely where the pipes bolt up. As for the install, it was simple. Just follow the directions supplied by V&H, and you will have no problems. I really like the sound of mine. |
