    Default 1975 Kawasaki 400

Saw an ad on Craigslist for this bike. It's local and the guy is asking $200 for it. It doesn't run (still have to ask him why) and he says it has "some rust." I'm still waiting for a reply to some questions on it, but I looked up pictures of that year and model and I like it. Judging from this should I try to go lower, or do you all think this is a good price? I don't mind having to fix it, it'll be a learning experience

You don't get much for $200. I'd get a good pic from him to make sure its not totally shot and find out why it doesn't run. I had a KZ400 that was about that year. ( one of my first bikes ) I loved it.

Seller says that you can kick it slowly and the engine will turn, so it isnt seized up or anything. He said it needs a new battery, and from the pics he showed me it needs a new seat cover. Rust doesnt look bad, looks like what you can get off of the chrome parts of bicycles with a brillo pad. I'm going to ask for more pictures and/or a chance to go and see it. Even if it were running I'd be spending the winter working on it, replacing parts and stuff.

If it is complete and all nuts and bolts are there, engine turns and overall just looks like it has been sitting.........it sound like a good project that isn't hopeless. At least you've got winter ahead of you and it is a nice time to get one. Offer him 140-150 and see if he goes for it. Any project you WILL find more to do than you anticipated......an engine that has been sitting.........count on dried out seals and such.
