Cool Remote Controlled LED installation complete!!

I received the final parts to complete my full LED lighting installation on Thursday and finished all the wiring and tidying today!

(for those who aren't aware) Originally i installed the StreetFX Electropods complete Blue LED kit; which contains 3 pairs of LED pods (6 pods, each with 6 LEDs) and 2 LED strips (6 LEDs in each). I put 2 pods under the rear fender and 2 under each side of the tank, then the 2 strips under the frame to illuminate the road beneath me.

I loved the look, but i felt there was an absence of light between the cylinders so i went back online and bought a StreetFX Blue LED Flexi-strip. I wanted everything under my seat to be neat and tidy (& safe) so I also bought a StreetFX Power Distribution Module which basically lets you connect all the LEDs together securely and then wire them all to the battery. Whilst looking at available Street FX products i saw a Wireless Remote Power Unit The location of my current on/off switch was annoying; hard to reach and left messy wires everywhere, so i decided to get a wireless remote too!!

Ok, so to continue on from my original LED post : http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/fo...blue-leds.html
Installation was pretty easy as all the other LEDs and wiring was already in place!

I took the coil cover off and then undid the coil holder itself and secured it out of the way with some wire tying it in the air from the clutch lever. Allowing me free access to between the cylinders, i fed the new Flexi-strip along the spine of the frame and left the strip hanging between the cylinders so i could do all the wiring and then best position the LEDs once I knew they worked.

Wiring of the Power Distribution Module and the Wireless Remote was really quite easy. I undid all my previous LED connections and ripped my old switch out and threw it away. I had to re-strip some of the wires to make the connections easier, but it was simply a case of putting the red wires into the red holes on the PDM and the black wires into the black holes. The clips are springloaded so you just open the hole using the little thumb tab, feed the wire in and release the tab... and hey presto! the wire is now held securely in place!

Once I'd connected all the LEDs into the Power Distribution Module, i soldered the original power wires (which went to the battery) to the wires coming from the Remote Power (which would otherwise go directly to the LEDs), wrapped the joints with electrical tape to insulate them. I then moved to the other wires coming out of the Wireless Remote which would go to the battery, and I soldered the in-line fuse (i'd cut out from my original switch) into the red wire from the, then connected the red and black wires to the battery and i was done!!

((the strange object between the battery and rear fender is the relay and fuse for my triple headlight... it's waterproof, but i wrapped it with a disected finger from a latex glove just to make it a little more water resistant. Everything is super-tidy under the seat now!))

After 5 minutes of amusement turning my LEDs on and off with the remote, i set about finding a place to put the wireless remote control box and decided on a perfect spot to the side of the battery box just beside the fuses. I then fed the white antenna wire through from behind the ignition and following a few minutes of running around and using the remote control from various angles and different positions trying to turn the lights on, i figured the antenna was best located in the space between the rear cylinder and the seat, so i just securely cable-tied it into some other cables.

the antenna is the white wire barely visible just poking out behind the ignition

Moving back to the Flexi-strip, it didn't take long to cable-tie it to some of the hoses ensuring that it was a decent distance from the cylinders themselves. The flexible strip was fantastic for bending and twisting into place. It would have been better if it was a little more flexible and if it would hold the position you manhandled it into.... but we can't have everything for $20 can we!? ...
Securing it in place with some more of the little cable-ties I screwed the coil back into place and then the coil cover... and voila! All done!

I'll be taking some proper nighttime shots outside when i get my easybrackets and chrome rear brake reservoir cover on, so you can see how she looks 100% complete (yes... 100%!), but until then, these shots in my garage will have to suffice.

I'm actually also featured on the StreetFX website, StreetFX Canada - Insolentminx and i'll be sending this report and pictures over to them too so they can update their page.
Maybe they'll pay me some sponsorship or send me some extra free stuff ... hell, even just a little sticker/decal for my bike would be cool. Free advertising is good, right guys??

And then here's the pics of the LEDs in use!

...and for those of you who can't imagine LEDs being turned on and off without having to touch the bike, here's a quick demo...
(i was gonna give a commentary, but i hate how my voice sounds in movies... sorry all of those expecting to hear my sexy English accent)

    i can and i do.

    whether or not it's legal......

i have actually done some reading and can't quite seem to see it saying it's illegal anywhere.

We're only allowed red lights facing back and white lights facing front. We can't have blue lights shining if we're not an emergency vehicle, the lights can't flash or anything like that either... and as far as i'm concerned you can't actually 'see' the bulbs of my LEDs, it's just the 'glow' .... i'm yet to be pulled over. I hope i can plead ignorance or just hope that it's a bike cop who pulls me over and can sympathise with the 'need to be seen' as bikes don't have any form of lighting from the sides at nighttime.

they might be classed under the 'distracting other road users', but i bet half weren't even paying attention to the road before i distracted them anyway!!

if it means a car driver sees me at night who might not have seen me if i didn't have them on, then i'll continue to use them.

Plus they look cool as hell.

I picked up my light kit from the dealership(ordered it because they didn't have green) but I was busy yesterday and couldn't wire it up.

So, at about 2am this morning I was sitting outside wiring the kit up in the parking lot under flashlight illumination.

I took it for a ride at about 3am to ride down to Wal-mart to buy some zip ties because the ones I had around were smaller for wiring coupling and I couldn't secure the wires and light strips to the bottom of the bike to make it nice and tidy and secure.

I will take some pics a little later when the sun goes down. I don't have the luxury of a garage right now since I live in an apartment

I also did My 900 Custom last week but used a remote by Pilot bought at Pep Boys for $29.99.I put 3 pods under each side of the gas tank,3 pods in the rear fender well,3 pods under the bike and 4 pods on the crash bar shining on the radiator grill.Total of 16 pods.I like your idea of the light strip between the cylinders and may do that as well.No pictures, digital camera is in Florida with the wife for a week.

Your bike looks great with the lights. I'm doing the same thing to my 900, my LED's should be here tomorrow, I went with red and am hoping to make it hard to miss an night. Anything we can do to be seen is good in my book. Do you mind sharing where you found the triple headlight assy? I saw your thread after you installed them and really like it. Would like to look into that mod myself. Good job and thanks. You convinced me that my LED's will look good too.

I don't have a fancy remote control setup but I just hooked these up around 2am this morning.

I kind of like them. I'm just wondering the probability of being ticketed around here by the local cops or state troopers on the interstate.

Most Staties are cool but I'm not sure how cool these local cops are.
