I am interested in getting a mustang seat but have a question about riding position. Some of the posts say the seat shifts you forward, and some say it puts you back. How does the mustang seat with driver backrest affect your riding position on a 900 classic? Does it put you forward or back and what about height.? Also, for those that have thes seat, did you find it necessary to then get risers to adjust riding position?

I have mine on a 900 Classic LT, I agree, slightly forward and up. The position creates a more upright riding position which allows easier reach to the bars and more comfortable for longer rides. The backrest is adjustable in tilt which does bring it more forward or rearward with total adjustment of about 3/4-1 inch. I say tilt because use of the adjustment changes angle as well because it only has one pivot point.

My response to you is not exactly on target - I have a Vulcan 1600 and don't have the backrest. It does seem to raise the height and distance to the bars slightly. But I mainly wanted to tell you that the seat is an incredible improvement from the stock seat. I can ride all day with no discomfort whatsoever. The mild adjustment in seating position didn't take long at all and the seat is well worth it. I did also add Phat II risers to bring the bars closer, but I would have done that anyway. In general, I recommend the Mustang seat.

I just got my mustang seat with backrest for a 900 classic yesterday. My 1st ride was this morning to work and I love it. The seat puts you a little closer but I wouldn't worry about that. I'm 6'4 255lbs and don't need the risers but some do, hope this helps

I just added the Mustang touring seat and back rest, love it. I added Phat II risers at the same time so I can't comment on how the Mustang moved me in relation to the stock setup, but it did raise me up an inch. At 5'8" this puts me right on the boundary of being too high, but not over it. I can still touch ground flat footed but just barely. Well worth the extra comfort however. As a testimony to just how comfortable the Mustang seat is... I fell on some stairs two weeks ago and badly bruised my tail bone. There are some chairs that I still can't sit in, but I did two hours on the bike today with very little discomfort.
