I should have asked what was the MINIMUM time needed for a good ride. Of course a whole day riding is best, but with kids that never happens for me.

I voted 5 hours. 250-300 mile rides are perfect. If I go out for an hour or two, I'm unfulfilled. Have not been able to get away for an over nighter since I got the 2k, 13000 miles ago (three kids, two are boys in High School football) just can't find the time or money. 22 years ago my cousin and I took two GSL1000's for five weeks on the road 6700 miles. That was one for the books. Love to do that again and will someday, Lord willing. Ride everyday if I could but not on California freeways, the best is when you can get out of the city, FOR SURE!

Y'see, a few years back I pinched a nerve in my left hip... it acts up every now and then and sort of puts my entire left leg/hip/a$$ into a kind of painful coma... I can't feel anything but pain.

Makes it rather difficult to change gears, when you can't feel your foot or toes.

Yes, getting old sucks. Especially when you've still got stuff you wanna do...

Um, your world is backwards then, 'cause from dusk 'til dawn would be from sun down to sun up for the rest of us.

I voted 4 hours... thanks to the Viagra commercials I get worried if anything enjoyable last longer than 4 hours now!

Its so difficult to explain to non bikers how addictive it can be, some times after a busy shift at work when I should just rush home and fall into a hot bath bath I take the long route or go out of my way so I can stay on the bike

Just had this conversation with my wife... she said "go ahead, but you have to be back on two hours..." But dear, two hours sucks! You need to go somewhere, have a coffee and chat about the route getting there, and then get home... assuming you stop for 20 minutes (which turns into half and hour but the time you gear up etc.), that means you ride for 45 minutes in one direction, and 45 minutes back! That's like going to work!

Can I have 4 hours, PLEEEEEEESE?! LOL

(P.S. I got the four hours!!!)

I like 5-ish best... if the REAL question is "without feeling rushed"...

As long as I'm on the bike it doesn't matter. A quick trip to the grocery store that is 15 minutes in the saddle is just as good as a 5 hour ride in the country, if that 15 minutes is all I can fit in that particular day. Any riding is better than no riding. I try not to ride so long that it stops being fun. If my butt gets sore and I'm 100 miles from home, that ride home seems to take forever!

My wife and I do a lot of half day trips that end up being between 100-200 miles. Those are fun for us.

That's hilarious. Just don't take the Viagra and then go for a ride. Could be uncomfortable.

At four hours aren't you suppose to see a doctor?

After 4 hours I'd think you would be showing everybody.

Enjoy the kids, they grow up way too fast, and when they do there's plenty of riding time.

Ride 'til it needs a full tank of gas. Then head back via another way. <G>

But, the the dead of winter when there is frost on the ground, it's been raining for two weeks straight and the temps are hovering around 32 or so, a brisk ride around the lake (about 10 miles) on a clear, bright afternoon can lift the spirits. It may not be far or long, but it's on two wheels and I'll take that.
