Default Rear pulley

Kind of confused. Whats new? Well hate always looking for 6th gear on my bike but am afraid if I swap out the pulley I will lose low end power. I love to make the pipes scream when I take off and would hate to lose that. So please any input about pros and cons let me know. Thanks

No cons... did it on my 900 and V2K. Great mod.

I think the front pulley I got was one of the best things I got for my 900 Custom. And I can still make my Vances and Hines pipes scream when I take off. But make no mistake: you will lose some low end. But not a lot. Does that really matter? You're not going to win any drag races with a 900 Custom anyway.

One thing you will definitely lose: all that vibration and screaming engine at 70 mph. I bought a 900 Custom to hit the road and cruise around comfortably. Not to do zero to 60 in 2 seconds. And since I got that pulley – road trips have been heaven. Granted the vibration and engine scream now appear at 90 – but I usually don't hang out there long enough to care.

There is enough low end left to get out of a hairy situation and to not embarrass yourself when the rest of your friends take off from a red light leaving you behind. But you will feel a difference. Some difference on the low end and a LOT of difference on the high end.

Well it was last night that I bolted the front pulley on my wifes 900 custom...and it is awesome....but I am still scratching my head as to whether I want the rear pulley as well.

With just the front it is amazing...with very little noticable loss of bottom end...just have to twist the throttle a bit more..it is all still there. Just that highway driving is amazing, and around town...just run a gear lower..all is GREAT!!!

I rode two up for the first time with the front pulley combined weight 285 and no problems taking off!

I like the mod.

Talk to me about the 2K pully. As I get up to 60 or 70, it seems to me that the motor is just reving too high. Pump it up to 85+ and i cna'ta hear the noise so I don't worry...

that's a difficult question to answer, unless you had each one on separate and both on at the same time, I would not want both the front is fine, I think the rear only would be too much, both would kill the engine!

The difference in reduction in RPM is inconsequential really. Some people have reported issues with the rear pulley's build quality. Although, some have said the same for the front but I'd say I read more happy customers on the front than unhappy.

If I were willing to spend about 400 bucks for the rear I'd go with Myron the pulley guy's rear. I think his is a better looking set-up than Scootworks'.

Be aware that you can get a 3.8% reduction by just going to a 170/80/15 rear tire. The front ScootWorks pulley is 5.8%.

I would not recommend both that would be over 11% reduction and you would feel the loss of power (I question those that say they feel it with just the front) and your speedo would then have a negative error.

kewl really appreciate it guys. I will now consider the front pulley I don't often go much over 70 but I am moving to cali soon so I know how traffic is and the "speed" limits are there.

I've got the pulley on my V2K. Now the engine is almost lugging at 65 mph in 5th gear and I can wind it out further in 1st gear before I need to shift into 2nd. I wanted to see how far it would go in 4th gear ... I ended up bouncing it off the rev limiter at 105 mph before dumping it in 5th gear!!

Thanks. It sounds like pulling a trailer with it wouldn't be a problem, either.

I pull a trailer with my 2006 2000LT and I have the front and rear pulleys installed. I have had no problems with or without the trailer. Best modification I have made to the bike so far.
