Default Running Rich????

I have noticed lately that the exposed part of the inside of my exhaust (yeah I hope that made sense) has had a lot of carbon build up. I have to clean it about once every month. Is this amount of build up normal or is the bike running rich? All fuel and intake is stock. The only thing I have done is the marble trick to stop popping on de-accel.

Better to be running a little rich than a little lean. Pour some sea foam in the gas tank from time to time to keep things running smoothly.

I'm just a well read know-nothing so hope this helps until someone with some mechanical aptitude comes along

The marble trick is to plug the reed valves which will stop a popping on de-accel. See link below for instructions and info.

Also if not already done consider a PCIII (Power Commander). Gives you a lot of flex as to how rich or lean you want to run the bike.

Over the winter I installed a new Muzzy 2 -1 and I also did the Marble mod. I notice when I first start up a moderate amount of black smoke from the pipes but after a minute it is unnoticeable. I have also noticed my pipe starting to yellow a bit just behind where the two pipes meet into 1. Am I running rich as well?

What do you mean by "cleaning it out?" Do you also have aftermarket exhaust system?

I have a set of Cobra Classic Delux Slash Cuts. All I am needing to do is clean the carbon out of the inside of the slash cut. Just wanted to know if the carbon build up here was normal or not. I have seen this on vehicles I have owned when the run rich and the rear bumper starts to get a build up.

It's normal. I'd leave it. Cars that have blackened bumpers are usually also burning oil.

The stock setup is usually too lean. I don't think you are running rich.

Agree with Lee and ppark, carbon is normal, there are unburnt hydrocarbons exiting any I.C. engine unless they are burnt in a catalytic converter. Your Cobras replaced the converter so you are left with what we all do...dump unburnt hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. Some of yours (and everyone else's) gets deposited on your chrome slash cut. So its part of the cleaning process, just sing to her while you do it.
