Cool Left lane bandits.

Left-lane slowpokes drive you crazy? - MSN Money

Since I drive for a living and have experianced this firsthand every day. I found it to be an interesting read. I only wish this would be enacted in Canada.

There's a section of 295 in Richmond Va. I run the risk of a left lane ticket. Actually I run the risk of a speeding ticket more than a left lane camper ticket. The other two to three lanes to the right in the area are ruff as h e l l, and instead of using them I usually stick foot in it and haul a s s in the left lane. I also watch the mirror intensily in the left lane so if someone is gaining on me I can move over and let them by.

Usually, that lane on 295 crusies between 75-80, 10 to 15 mph above the speed limit, so if I'm gonna go, I go.

North Carolina drivers are terrible at camping out. The state began putting up signs not long ago about keeping right but it doesn't seem to have helped much.

No, it sure doesn't, and it's one of my pet peeves too. Basically people "hoard" the passing lane fearing that if they get left, they won't be able to get back out into the passing lane.

I see that a LOT on the section of 85 going through Cabarrus county. Ours is the ONLY county between Charlotte and Raleigh that has done NOTHING to aid the flow of traffic!

Bwahaha. WA does something right. (Though I've never actually seen it.)

Down here in SoCal, we have the "car pool lane". People get in there and poke along and you're stuck.

I used to feel bad about passing on the right.

Not so much anymore.

I love the car pool lane. If the guy in front is going too slow I just drive on the double solid lines and pass him/her. I often find myself driving on the lines the whole ride.

Going over Stevens Pass there are multiple signs "Illegal to impeed 5 or more vehicles." I love seeing that when there are 15 or 16 cars in front of some idjut doing 35 to 40 in the passing lanes. Who knows, there might be a slow semi in the right lane somewhere.... on earth.

I am amazed at the number of drivers in this state who are incapable of driving faster than 30 or 35 mph. My wife has several coworkers who never get ont he freeway, fortunately. They putt putt down Hwy 9 at 30 mph. Limit is 45 to 55. Two lane...Sheeze.

I got stuck behind a left lane ninny on my way to Summerland this morning.

I like the way they do it in Italy, you sit in the left lane and you get some serious high beams and bumper up your rear end.......though you don't see many slow left lane fools over there.

If I'm going at least 5 over the speed limit, I'll stay in the left lane.

If I'm going the speed limit or just under I will move over.

There's no need to encourage people to speed. There are slower drivers out there, but don't fool yourself... most of the time when you come up on someoene's *** your breaking the law yourself.

What's annoying to me is when they hang in the left lane for miles, then at the last moment , cross-over 2 or 3 lanes so they can make a right-hand turn; it's seems to be the standard way to drive on Jersey interstate roads.

True. However clusters of traffic (which tend to be created by blocking lanes) are generally the source of traffic accidents on the highway.

Its best to allow faster traffic to pass (to be safe), and let the cops deal with them. If the cops don't deal with them...speed up

There are 2 aspects to the "left lane phenomenon".

The first is the one that has been discussed. An induhvidual in the left lane impeding traffic. They, in turn, come in two classes.
- the zoned out driver who doesn't realize they are blocking traffic. These will usually get out of the way as soon as they realize their error.
- and the "left lane vigilante." This one thinks that it is their job to enforce the speed limits by passive-aggressive behavior.

The second situation is the "top gun" driver. They zip down the roads at breakneck speeds and just live for pulling up behind someone in the left lane, blasting them with their high-beams and tailgating, regardless of how fast the car in front of them is going.
You could be doing twice the speed limit, passing a line of cars, and they will still insist that you get out of their way. These clowns are the same breed as the vigilante, just the other end of the spectrum.
They don't care about how fast you are going, so long as it is behind them.

Yeah those guys are equally as annoying. I was actually passed on the right once...and I was in the right lane! The idiot buzzed right on by, swerved around a bit...got hung up behind the next cluster (still swerving around closer to the speed limit at that point)...hung back for a bit...then turned from the left lane across the right, across the "buffer zone" between the exit and interstate, onto the exit and gone...THANK GOD!!!!

That article is complete BS. Since this summer, I've driven from Seattle to Idaho twice, and Seattle to Portland a few times. I've NEVER seen a cop pull anyone over for anything other than speeding, nor heard of it happening to anyone. I have passed numerous speed traps, stuck a line of cars in the left lane behind someone doing 65 in a 70 on several occasions. I make note of this because I am one of the people who complains to the state patrol.

FWIW, WA state traffic law says you can use the left lane a) to pass OR b) if you are going faster than the flow of traffic. In the cases I am thinking of, the driver in the left lane was doing neither.

Meanwhile, I've been stopped for speeding because someone was riding my *** in the left lane while I was passing a line of cars at 80 and I got up to 85 to try and get him off of me. Luckily, that driver got pulled over too. Fortunately, I found a good lawyer and got the ticket dropped from 85 in a 70 to "overweight axle" which has the same fine but it not counted as a moving violation.

Don'e even get me started on the b***h in Idaho who accused me of doing 75 in a 60 later that day when I had the cruise control on and set at 64 in the right lane. Got that ticket tossed out too though.
