Default Has anybody here ever put a Howard's Big Horn on their 1600 Classic?

Howard's Horns Home Page, motorcycle air horns, battery cables

Has anybody here ever put a Howard's Big Horn on their 1600 Classic? What a great sounding horn and looks good too. But I'm wondering if it would be a pain to install?

Another option would be to cram a Stebel Nautilus Air Horn under the frame, in front of the rear wheel (were some bikes have their pre-muffler goat's bladder). My 1600 Classic has an empty spot there.

The Stebel is cheap and sounds great but I'm worried that it won't last, I read a lot of post from people complaining that theirs didn't last long or were DOA. Kind of puts me off trying one out for myself.

I like the sound of air horns over the other types out there. Any suggestions?

I haven't tried them but they sound louder and deeper than the Stebel I have but you could buy 5 Stebels for the price of 1 Howards.

The "hog squeal" sound of the "Little Big Horn" makes me want to put a bullet through it.

ugh!

Yeah, that "Little Big Horn" sounds like crap, very annoying indeed! But the Big Horn sounds awesome.

I'd get the Stebel but I read sooooo many complaints about them dying that I don't have much faith in their product, unless they've cured the problem since then. If it'll last, the price sure is right and sounds great too.

I just put the Fiamm AM-80 on my bike and it sounds great. Very loud.

It "honks" like a car rather than going "beep". It's a little weird, the sound is wrong for the source. Kinda like going to a farm and seeing a cow go "Meow".

Still, it's very loud and a great deal at $10. Plug n play.

I've had the Stebel on our 900 for almost two years now without any problems. It's gone through hot temps, cold temps, rain, even a little snow shower.

Default Big ***** Noises

Ifound a set of Mack air horns in perfectshape and mounted them on the left side, added a wolo 120 psi compressor from JCWhitney ( 120.00) and made a resevoir that fits in the tool compartment. Good for a 4 second blast before the compressor turns on( if you need more than 4 seconds of horn you had best say goodbye. So far I have needed it 1 time, the look on the other guys face was sooooo worth the effort. Sounds like a rig but none to be seen, all traffic will stop and off you go. Added benifit is I can top up tires anywhere.

I had a Stebel on my 900 & it was loud when I was sitting still. I was behind wife pulling our fifth wheel she never heard a thing when I blowed the Stebel.

elevater, i want to see that, and since we live 2000miles apart, you won't mind if i copy you, do you? i'm a trombone player, and i want a horn that sounds like one. post a pic, will ya? maybe a drawing of the good hiding places for a compressor. by "made a reservoir" did you use a CO2 bottle or did you really make it in the garage? because that sounds like exactly what i've been wishing for.

Pics will be posted soon, too cold for the camera to work this morning. The resevoir is made of 2.5 dia ABS drain pipe,a piece 6"long with an end cap, a 90 deg elbow on the other end. Drlled 2 holes in the 90( 3sizes undersize) heated my inlet and outlet fittings real hot and threaded them in. After cooling a little shoe goop and tried her out. First time ,for safety, dropped the assy in a concrete block and hit the air. Still together after 185 psi and no leaks so in the left side tool space. The long part fits in the weather tight box, lose the lid first, and the 90 with fittings fits in the side cover space leaving room to run air lines and install a quick coupler for tire maint. I will post some pics soon
