80/90w gear oil is fine and i think it works better than conventional oil...I would use ATF Type F transmission oil in the gear box i think it works best and stays cleaner longer

Since you replaced the stator you might check to make sure it hasn't moved beyond the timing marks...If the bike ran good with the other carb i would have left it on probably isn't the problem. When you start the bike from a cold start after turning the gas ON blip the throttle 1 time and then pull the choke up try starting the bike WITHOUT giving it any gas while you kick it over with the choke on...that's the starting technique i use when i start mine

oil is fine in gearbox
why did you change carb/what did you change in carb ?
sounds like you leaned it out and maybe burned it up ... does it still kick over with the kickstart ? is it really easy to kick over now ? do a compression check and make sure you didnt hole the piston...
are you 100% sure you put the stator/flywheel back on the key correctly ? (the piece that sat in the grove on the end of the crank holds the stator/flywheel in place so it doesnt turn and mess up timing)

has the bike sittin long because the oil in the gas goes to the bottom and goes onto the carb and it wont start you should take out all the gas and clean the whole carb and put new gas in it

Well the flywheel may not be fine since it has been removed and bolted on again. Maybe the flywheel was not tight enough and sheared the key. You will get spark but the bike may or may not run since the timing is off. Sounds like a sheared key to me.

Always think about what was messed with and may have changed. If you did not tinker with the carb that would have been one less variable. The oil in your gear box would not matter.

you said it has strong spark but won't run. I thought it was a deteriorating condition. So it runs but crappy. Carb. Jetting. Plug. Maybe clutch is slipping.

Hi, i've got a 1997 KX80 and i have similar problems, i can't get the power down, its not running properly.
your problem might be with the jets in the carb, if you have done something to the carb, example- "there is a thread on the top of the carb, which controls how much petrol is going through", so that might be the problem.

If you take out the reed valves, on either side there are metal strips which control how much air is passing through, you can move them in (so there is less air passing through) or out (so more air is passing through)
So it is either the powerband, the carb or the reed valve. It will help if you can find the right plug.

im pretty new to these kx engines but i am rebuilding a few. but if its not peaking your powerband i would check the reeds make sure there is no gaps or pieces misssing. ive had 2 stroked with reeds that are cracked and chipped but the bike still ran great. then a blaster i had, reeds were bad just enough gap for light to show through, and new reeds fixed it. It was picky

also could be sucking air from cranckase seals or other areas. I know 250r engines thats its. but from what ive learned if your carb was running correctly and nothing was changed use that carb. check all air leaks exhaust gasket and orings can leak and loose compresion. dirty airfilter. loose boot on ethier side of carb the or reeds.

you can check crank seals by putting the piston at the bottom of the stroke then rig a air gauge and put 5psi in the cylinder shouldnt loose anymore then 1psi per minute i think.

I used to race 250r quads when 13-17 so i knew that engine and learned the 2 stroke hell. but theres guys on here that know more info especially about
easy way to fix problems is to know how it works then go through each part and see if its ok. I wathced my uncle teach me aobut 250r's but i know two things. some run like a great with worn out parts and some rquire a new airfilter or sparkplug everytime you ride it.

I would start with the air filter, then use the good carb you have and check reeds while changing carbs. supposed to be no gaps when held to light. Try riding it with the choke on see if it hits your power then if so its getting to much air from some where.

Thanks, well its bad news for me
i was on a track and was in 3rd, went to 4th and it cut out, wen i kicked it over it was grinding, as if not enough oil in the gear box or kick start.
the kick start is now jamed and does not move atall, also the piston has jamed.
