Default bent forks, how do I fix & carb ? (PICS)

well my friend had a very bad crash on his 83 Kawasaki KDX 250. he visibly bent the forks & shattered his leg. he's ok & decided when he's ready to get back on a bike he'd buy a new one, so he sold me the 83 cheap. I barely scraped the cash together for the bike & don't got much cash for replacements. so how do I fix them ? he mentioned straightening with a press. can I do that ? also any1 know exactly what carb this is so I can get a rebuild kit & what/where hooks up to the 3 little nipples ? I know the large nipple is the fuel supply.

forks

carb

thanks

Carb is Mikuni VM- proabably 38 or 39mm.

I had a 84 KX250 I parted out. I still have the forks. They needed to be rebuilt and the fork caps were all marred up bad by a hack mechanic. The fork tubes are still good along with everything else. If you ever get some money I will gladly sell them cheap, but unfortunately you live in NM and shipping from MI probably won't be cheap.

I could drain them and possibly compress them to cut costs.

You can use a press to straighten slightly bent forks but those look too far gone.

pull carb apart and let it soak in B12 CHEMTOOL (you can get a gallon can at the autoparts store) , replace all rubber gaskets......
as for forks, just replace the fork tubes/seals/oil over the winter..... save some money and get the forks off ND4SPEED...

I believe this guy can straighten forks that are not badly bent. Give them a call:

DO NOT try to straighten those forks. Just save your money up and buy a used set. Opening a box with used forks in it is easier than opening the can of worms you mentioned.

Be careful about just blindly soaking carbs in carb soak. For example, 1989 and newer KDX carbs can NOT be soaked like that due to a non-removeable, non-replaceable o-ring inside.

Look on the kawasaki.com site under Owner Info / Parts Diagrams to see the parts diagrams for your bike. Check your VIN to make sure it is indeed a 1983 model before you go buying parts for a year model that you don't turn out to own.

YWell I already ran the vin & was told it was an 83 kdx. I'm having a hard time finding used parts for this bike.

I will measure the forks since I know the 83/84 KX250 are the same motorcycle but I do not know if the 83 KDX has the same forks.

Good call KDXgarage.

guess that depends on if you just want the tubes, but I may not even be able to get these apart without a hassle. They use a very large allen bolt at the bottom which I probably don't have and the caps are stripped some. Getting the oil out should not be a problem.

Wanted to make sure you needed them, what you needed, then I have to weight them, measure/find a box, and calculate shipping still.

The pictures and part numbers do not appear to match. Like the front axle setup.
