Default Removing Engine Cover: Kick Shaft Oil Seal

I want to change the spring on my kick start. I was reading through the factory Service manual and it says, an oil seal guide must be used when intalling the right engine cover. This guide is used to protect the oil seal when passing the kick shaft through the engine cover.

What I want to know is, is there a way to intall the cover without using this tool and if there isn't, where can I get this oil seal guide?

WHAT?! You have the service manual AND are considering buying the special tools mentioned?! Lemme buy you a drink! You can probably get away without it. You don't mention which bike you have, so I can't figure out exactly which kick shaft seal guide you need, but if it is the 57001-263 tool, then it is $13.43 at Bike Bandit, with $6 shipping.

I don't have one of those tools, so I can't comment, but maybe you could find a REAL thin sleeve to use or maybe cut up an aluminum soft drink can??

I don't think too much oil gets up there as one can compare the oil level in the sight window with the height of the kick starter shaft.

Thanks for the help. I have a 88 kx 250. That's the tool I was referring to. I think I'll be able to do without the tool.
