Default shop rebuild cost??? horrible engine problems!!

Hey guys, i got a 1995 kx125 that i bought from a guy that raced it, so i took off the top end and the piston and ring looked fine so i bought new gaskets and put it all back together. Once i did that i got it running and it would just die if i let go of the gas and it had a horrible noise from the top end, but anyways i took it down the road maybe 100 ft and the powerband wouldn't hit, i had it at full throttle and it just died down and turned off and wouldn't kick over. the next day somehow it kicked over and i got it running and it would idle somewhat then at full throttle bog down and die. i already took it apart once so i ain't doing it again, im gonna have the kawasaki dealer fix it, but anyone know the cost of a new top end when a shop does it?? i just wanna know about the price i will be charged, and don't tell me to do it myself cause it's at the shop, but if anyone knows why it would do that or the cost then let me know. thanx

Just a guess but how about a compression leak? Especially if the bike was running right before you opened it up. Maybe the gasket kinked when you installed it.

I siezed my crank once, it cost me 1100.00 for the rebuild and a new sleeve.

Steve,

If it starts, runs and even rides, but then dies when you open the throttle ... it may also be an air-fuel mixture problem ( the engine may not be getting enough air/oxygen) when the throttle is wide open and demand is at it's highest. Always before spending any money, do the simple things that don't cost much and can sometimes save you a bundle:

1. Throughly clean and check the air filter for debris that could slow the airflow to the carb - also airbox intake slots are free and clear.
2. Check your gas cap venting valve ( if stopped up will create a vaccum in the tank and starve your engine) (also easy/cheap fix)
3. Change your gas, clean and drain carbs ( maybe gummed up from old gas)
4. Check your air/fuel mixture screw ( on carb) to be sure it is in the correct position
5. Change your sparkplug
If these don't do the trick then the shop maybe your only choice; however, if one of these corrects the problem , then you are riding again for less then $25. Good luck keep us posted.........GM

The other cycles just wish they could be GREEN with envy! KX450F

Won't run full throttle? I had that problem over the winter and my vent tubes were plugged up on the carb. Another cost free fix to consider before the shop! Good Luck!

check your compression. Maybe you had a ring not set properly and the noise could be it eating up your cyclinder wall.

Has anyone ever heard of a ring gettin turned around in the cylinder? when I bought mine the ring was about 90° turned around and it just made a mess of the cylinder... I just wonder how this could happen unless it was put together wrong in the first place, the piston that came out of it was a stock piston.
