Default 94 KDX 250 rear wheel question

Hello, new to the forum and could use some help.

I've got a 94 KDX 250 with a busted rear wheel. Sprocket is spun clean off the hub. I've been looking for a used wheel and havn't found one. I did find a wheel listed as being for a 93 - 2002 KX 125/250. In the pictures, it seems to have an identical hub to my kdx, same bolt pattern for the disc and sprocket as far as I can tell. I'm wondering if it will fit my bike, and if it would accept my KDX 250 axle. Thanks in advance for the help.

On www.buykawasaki.com they show the same part numbers for the rear axle on both bikes, so the hubs look to be interchangeable.

From your other post, it seems you have a 1989 KDX200. I think the rear hub from a 1990 - 1996 KX125/KX250/KX500 is the same. The 1997 and newer hubs may or may not work, but they are not the same part number. I think they have two rear wheel bearings on one side, so I doubt it would be worth taking a chance on it.

Please note that I am referring only to the hub as being the same part number, as the complete wheel assembly is different. The KX wheels use longer spokes, 19" rims, tubes and tires. Motocross wheels are generally 19" and off-road wheels are generally 18".

Thanks alot for the response. Clears things up for me a bit. One question though, would it be alright to use a KX rear wheel assembly on my bike at 19" or would it cause problems?

There's a KDX wheel on eBay right now.

An 18" rear wheel may give a smoother ride and be less pinch flat resistant than a 19" rear wheel.

Well, that is what the magazines said back in 1989 or 1990. Sorry to go "4400" on you with the info, but that is what I remember from back then.

Well it's just common sense isn't it, more sidewall on the tire. When you have a 19" rim and an inch of sidewall on your tire, then you are more likely to pinch the tube flat versus an 18" rim with 2" of tire between the rim and your rock. Smaller rim leaves more room for tire. But then you look at the physics, the smaller the rim the harder it is to keep the rim from spinning inside the tire so the reason I'd imagine for the 19" rim on the MX bikes is that they're a bit harder, and since they're always on the throttle in fairly grippy dirt, there is a better torque transfer to the tire on the bigger rim.
