could anybody give me and ideas of how to lean out the carb any without changing the jets.. brand new moter and the c-clip was moved one grove down.. does that cause the bike to run leaner? also running 50:1 amsoil and a #8 ngkplug and have oil shooting out the back

Clip should be moved towards the top (blunt end) of needle to make mixture leaner. This will only effect 1/4 to 3/4 throttle range.
You need to experiment with main jet and pilot jet to effect top and bottom of range (smaller jets give leaner mix).
Experiment with your air/fuel mix screw before changing any jets. Start with 1 1/2 turns out from fully closed.

I hope I don't sound like a jerk when I say this, but, why are you running 50:1? Just cause it says you can, doesn't mean you should. I guess if you're just putting around it'll be OK, but if you rev the engine at all I would stay on the safe side and go with 40:1. What kind of bike and type of riding?

The bike is a kdx250, i do alot of trail riding, i don't really ride wide open all the time, i'v been checken the plug and with that mix i'm still running rich, from what i'v heard it's ok to run 50:1 on this oil http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/tdr.aspx

Yes .That adjustment will have an effect on how much mix the carb is getting at low to mid speeds.Try raising the clip a notch it should get you back to a leaner condition for sure .You said your bike was running pretty fat and wouldnt clear out till 3rd gear so this adjustment should get you back in the right direction ..let us know hows its going ok .. there is always someone here to offer help .

Factory specs call for running a 32:1 mix .Some guys go to 40:1 but 50:1 is starting to get out of bounds .Why not run the 32:1 or 40 max. That way ,you know your bike is getting the proper amount of lubrication.

well as far as the oil mix i'll run it down to 40:1 once the gas runs down on the tank, i fouled a plug today running 50:1 to i don't feel so bad, the plug was black after running around on a 300 acre golf course(i never loved golf so much) i did bring the c clip to the top and i think it leaned out some... Could reeds have anything to do with it having too much fuel the in the mix?

Here is a very good link with information on jetting and which jets effect which portion of the rpm range. Its good reading.Try a 40:1 mix or 32 before making a jet change now that you moved the clip up.see how the bike runs then. They would hang me if i ran around on a golf course here http://www.transworldmotocross.com/m...018579,00.html

Thanks for all of this great information, The golf course closed bout 7 months ago its a great place to ride!! Not many people know about it http://www.cheviothillsgolf.com/aerial.html thats the web site if you wanna check it out.. I think for right now the only thing i'll be able to do to lean the bike out is to adjust the air screw, but i don't even think that'll lean it out as much i need it to.. I just think i'm gonna have to bit the bullet and change out the main jet, the needle jet and the pilot jet.. As for right i'v only run it for about 3 hours total at 50:1 and it fouled out a plug after 3 hours of run time so i think the motor is fine..
