Default A new Cylinder?

The plating is coming off the cylinder on my 2001 KX125, and there is a ring on the top of the bore from the ring sticking. I have found another cylinder on ebay that looks brand new(very low hours bike), and I am guessing it will go for about $75. I hear that Kawasaki's electrofusion plating wears off real easy, so I wondered, would it be better to get my current cylinder plated with nikasil, or just get the used stock cylinder? Thanks.

Heck if your going to spend the $220 on a replate spend a little more and have it punched out to a 134. I had my 99' KX125 punched to the 134cc kit and it flat out rip's. I wouldn't waste my money on a used cylinder off any web site without the intentions of a replate or bore on any used cylinder. Just my $.02

Hey, thanks. Actually I have a company by me that will weld it and plate it for $170. How much $ did you end up paying for the 134 kit? I thought a little bit about that, but I dont want to break the bank.

I would send it to Eric Gorr for a big bore and his mo-power porting and a replate. Eric only uses US chrome and they do a good job for him. BTW Eric is very reasonable on his pricing. And if you would rather sleave the cylinder, a member here on this board is said to do good work too, his screen name is Lakeshore.
Just my .02 worth.

Thanks though. I think I will go with plating and porting by Eric Gorr. I am split on the 135 kit though.

I dropped $258 into the 134cc kit and that covered the boring and replating and then $90 for the piston kit.

I have personaly seen some of Eric's work, and a friend of mine has had Eric do all of his son's mini's the few years, and the work is excellent! My friend's son won two different Harescramble series last year on an Eric Gorr 99cc CR85, and he is doing pretty good this year on a 99cc YZ85 by Eric. Before that, the kid rode both MX and Harescrambles on 72cc KX65's done by Eric, and they have never had a problem with power, fitment or the plating.

FPMXer, how much more usable power did the 134cc kit add to your KX? Does it give you alot more bottom end power?

Eric will ask you where you want the power and port the cylinder acordingly. Normally either mid to high, or low to mid. And yes it adds some very nice power, you might say night and day difference.

That sounds really good. I was split on it before because I really wanted to get my forks revalved. I changed the springs though and the forks seem good enough for me to get some nice engine work done to match.

Do you suppose I should ditch the yellow front fender? Is it just really ugly?

The 134cc kit gave the bike more bottom and it holds on the pipe longer and seems to rev all day long. But the best thing anyone can spend money on for their bike to perform at it's best is properly set up suspension. I had my suspension revalved after the 134 treatment and now I need it resprung as the stock springs are worn out and limiting me on the track. If you can ride the 125cc's to it's max you will benifit from the 134cc kit.

Is there a company that will revale my forks for about $150? Is it possible to find out the proper valving to my weight and do it myself?

You mean respring it to your weight. Revalve is quite a bit more. Most springs are around $100 for the front pair and $100 for the rear shock spring. You will have some maintenance to do also when you get them apart. Probably an o ring or a seal head, fluid etc...

Your more than likely looking at around $175 labor for both the forks and the shock plus parts and oil.

I did the springs myself and replace the seals a little while ago. I just want it to be a little better about absorbing chop and and not bottoming. Revalving is the only way I will get what I want.

Race Tech is the way to go but you will spend BIG BUCKS. WITHOUT a spring change but with the gold valve set up, you could spend $600 to $700 TOTAL on the front and rear.

I have used Racetech and their stuff is ok I guess, but I have really liked Pro Action better. They aren't quite as widely known, but I feel they have done a much better job for me anyway.

Well... I've seen both their shops and that answered any questions I had right there. RaceTech = very neat and professional.

Either way, it will depend on which ProAction or RaceTech trained guy you get to do it.
