Hello All, This will be the first of MANY! posts here from Texas! So heres the story (short version) I grew up riding a 4 strokes just bought my first 2 stroke and i need to have some bottom end!!! I don't plan on taking it to the track its mainly to tool around with in the woods with my dogs. I know i should have bought a 4 stroke but this thing is sooo light i love it! Anyways i have been doing some research and i think i need the following items to give me som bottom end:
Front/Rear Gears Pipe/silencer flywheel wieght Carb rejetted/tuned does that sound right? If so what size/types should i buy? like smaller front gear bigger rear? or visaversa? Let me know what you think? Thanks Nick |

For your KX125,
1st, add one tooth to the rear sprocket, dont go down on the front, it is very hard onn your chain. 2nd Get a FMF Fatty and if you ride in a closed course, get a PowerCore2 Shorty. If you ride in a public area get a PowerCore 2 SA. 3rd Get a set of stiffer clutch springs. 4th Get a set of Boyesen Pro Series Carbon reeds(or a Rad Valve $$$ though). 5th If you can, get it ported for bottom end power. I have these mods on my 01 KX125(except porting), and I can tool around the woods and rip it up at the track with out changing anything. It gives you a very smooth, puched up, easy to use powerband. I have as much bottom end as my friends RM134, and I also have wayy more over rev power. It was definately better than stock.

14 tooth front 50 tooth rear 9 or 11 ounce FWW FMF fatty pipe/silencer and then taking it to somone to jet/tune the bike Sound good? I was researching some and someone said "Heavy Clutch Springs"?? Would that help? I am also looking for help on suspension set up? I am 165 on a kx 125. Thank in advance Nick |

Your gearing you picked out would make it horrible in the woods! It would have very weak power and would go about 100mph! You should run a 12 tooth front sprocket, and a 50 tooth rear.
Try it without the flywheel first, I dont think youll need it. Mostlikely it will not need to be jetted, unless the last owner screwed it all up. Heavy Duty clutch springs are a must have. I dont remember where my clickers are at, (I wiegh the same as you) but I will go check them in a bit. When you buy your parts, dont forget to get a good helmet!

Personally the first two things that go on our woods bikes are bark busters and a flywheel weight. The FWW makes them so much smoother and less apt to stall in the tight woods.

Yes, Bark Busters have saved my precious fingers quite a few times. Griff knows what he's talking about, go with the flywheel.

Cool so I think I will proably put the gear/pipe/reeds on first because the pipe is beat up and it still has the orignal gear and chain so it's time for a change then i will look into a FWW. But for the reeds do i need to buy just the reeds or the whole thing?

A reed cage will give you the most boost, but it is also quite pricey. Reeds themselves will also give you a power boost, just not as much as a full cage would. Unless you really want to spend $150 on a cage, I would say just get some carbon fiber reeds.
I put a Rad valve on my '91 RM125 and it gave it some nice power, but it is mostly mid and up power.

Looks good, you'll have to ask Griff on the FWW. I use EBC clutch springs. You can not get a Gnarly for a 125, they are only for 250's and 500's

Steahly should be able to recommend a weight for your purposes, but I will say this, the heavier the weight the more dramatic the effect. Steahly almost always list three different weights for most applications, I normally go with the middle becuase I want to actually gain something, but I don't like them to become to four stroke-ish if you know what I mean.
