Default Thinking of buying a KX 250 can I get opinions on its value!

The bike is a 95 KX250 it looks pretty rough and I can push the kick starter down with my hand. The rear caliper is really loose it can be pulled up and down about 1/2". There is what looks like oil coming from the head gasket. IF any of you can give me a ballpark figure I would greatly appreciate it.

without a pic...based on your description i would say $250-400. I assume the bike isn't running

A guess would be from 700 to 900....motors are easy and cheap to rebuild at least.

I love my KX250

Motors are NOT easy and CHEAP to rebuild, if its just a piston yeah maybe, but, if its a cylinder, now your looking a 200-300 to have it replated, cranks will cost 150-200, then theres bearings and seals 50-75, and you might as well figure a clutch, another 100, clutch basket 200, you can go on and on and don't forget the worn out caliper probably another 100. and how about labor, another 200 to split the cases and rebuild the motor.

Go into it open minded, expect the worst and hope for the best. If you get a thrasher, your better off spending a little more and getting something better IMO

Compared to a single 4 stroke its about 30-40 % as much to rebuild cost wise....so I guess I consider it cheap is all.
I rebuilt my KX250 motor last winter and it was about 200 including gaskets, and flushing the cooling system at the same time.

The most I would give for a bike in that condition is about $300. I just got done with one of those fixer upper jobs, just like that bike. It is the '91 RM125 that I have. I only payed $350(blown engine, cracked frame, ect.) for it, but I spent $400 to get it back in shape, plus my time. Unless you are very hands on and have a bit of mechanical skill I wouldnt recomend buying it for any price.

I am confident that I can do the repairs, but I'm not sure if I want to. Someone in a earlier post stated it best with a little more money I can buy something that don't need all of the work. Don't get me wrong if it was priced cheap enough I would grab it because I enjoy bringing bikes and cars back into shape. I am thinking that the cheapest that I can get it is about 950.

i would pass on it for sure for $950...you can buy a newer model in better shape for not a whole lot more. I live in texas and you can buy a newer model 2stroke running in good condition for $1200 to 1500

the 93' kx125 that i'm working on i got 2 bottom ends 1 has some damage on the right side of the case where the water pump bearing is but the other bottom end is good with a good crank, 1 used cylinder which i honed and will try and use it first, 1 brand new cylinder, brand new wisco piston kit, and the rest of the bike with an fmf fatty pipe and service manual for $400. I originally bought the bike to part out and make a little on it but decided it was in good enough shape to fix it and it would be a good 1st time rebuild project...

I paid $1500 for a 2002 KX250 in real good shape just last month. Two months ago I paid $550 for a 1996 CR125 that just needed a chain. You need to watch craigslist in your area and remember this- asking price is the seller's best wish.

I paid £85/$180 for that KDX/KX thing (+ Fuel to scotland so £120/$250) it needed = new forks (got a whole frame with them) for £35/$72 and a set of seals + piston + gaskets £40/$83 so overall it cost me just short of £200/$416 but it's worth it all it needs it smarting up (new plastics+graphics and a re-spray)
