well you have to take into account that every bike maker is diffrent
what i mean is diffrent engines have diffrent power bands sooo one may be real good one the bottom and one may be better on the top end as far as speed all bikes are diffrent with the gearing in both the transmission and the sprockets .... so just casue they both are 85cc doesnt mean that the gearing is the same ....to make that cr pull like the ktm off the line you could go to a larger rear sprocket which will give it more torque but less top end .......

Thats Why I Changed It When We Line The Bikes Up To Race When I Had The 55'' On The Cr Which Is A Stock Sprocket It Jumps The Line All Da Time Long Stretch It Wines Out An My Ktm Passes Right By When I Dropped The Sprocket It Takes To Long To Catch Top Speed Likemy Ktm Is Just Right When I Try To See If My Cr85 Expert Can Hang With It I Guess Not But Why Does My Small Wheel Cr 85 Beats The Bike By At Least 1 Semi Truck Its Con Fusing To Me Lol

like i said diffrent makers have diffrent engines ....it sounds as if the KTM has a stronger power band and the gearing is right ... as far as th CR you may have went too far onthe sprocket change ..... but the gearing in the transmission also has alot to do with the top speed .... and the starting speed also
You just have to try diffrent gearing combinations on the sprockets and see what works best
