Get the vin and go to www.kawasaki.com and punch the vin numbers into the parts information page and it will tell you the year. It's under owner info, then parts diagrams. There are a few differences in the suspension, carb, and motor....but they are very similar in most areas. The 02 has a new center flapper power valve which allows a little more snap off idle , revised suspension and carb settings and.....bold new graphics!

I have to agree, there really wasn't much difference. Most bolt on parts guards things like that will be the same, pipe is different so you will need to know what year for sure if you plan to upgrade. Other than that most exterior parts should be that same minus plastic and the famous ugly graphics.
