Is the bike two cycle or four cycle, are you adding oil or are you mixing oil and gas correct

Besides that mentioned before, oil can get into the combustion chamber two ways :

- leak at the valve seat. The valves are oiled regularly. The valve seats wear, and oil can sip in. Usually it is a very small amount and gets burned off, so you get smoke. But with enough time. With overhead valves, this is more noticeable after you stop the bike for a while. The oil keeps dripping into the chamber but the bike is not running so it sits there. When you start it again, you will burn/blow it out depending how much it is.

- blow by from the piston rings. The rings get oiled as they move. With enough wear, oil can sip between the ring and the cylinder wall into the chamber. Again, if little it will be burned. If more... ugh.

Thats just from general mechanical work, I am not a bike mechanic.

It's normal for a 2-stroke.
Oil goes in with your fuel, and comes out with the exhaust.
That's why the EPA is working towards eliminating 2-strokes.

I heard they are also trying to get rid of them on boats. Same issue, oil on the escape (on a boat, into the water).

As far as I know, they've been unavailable for boats for several years.

Most major manufacturers still offer them. With the exception of manufacturers like honda, that never made a two stroke.

Is it a black oil leaking out and down the silencer?
You just need to adjust your carb and get it jetted correctly .
Does it run ok?
Are you fouling plugs?
32 : 1 is a good mix but that will not cause oil to leak out the pipe anyway.
Worst situation is that your crank seals are gone , but you would be fouling plugs and loosing tranny oil . So if it runs good but is just smoking and leaking oil out the pipe silencer then its a jetting issue.

If you are running pump gas, then you will probably never get rid of all of the oil spooge on a KX85. As mentioned, with good clean jetting you can greatly reduce this, but doubtfully eliminate all of it. I have tried on these little bikes, I have even jetted them too lean, and they still put out some spooge on pump gas. Race gas with good jetting will help, but that is money spent that in most cases isn't really necessary. IMHO

If the bike runs good, then don't worry about it.

I remember seeing a evinrude outboard with Direct Injecting. it somehow injects fuel in the combustion camber right befor TDC, meaning the exhaust would be closed and no waste, its said to have good fuel mileage and emissions. i would like to see this design go into production with with dirtbikes in the near future.....long live 2STROKES

assuming everything else isn't worn out, then it's jetting, jetting, jetting

Evinrude makes two stroke boat motors (and have for years)...

Its not an unheard of thing to see a perfectly jetted bike do this. Its what lubes the engine man. Some of it is GOING TO come out. Two stroke engines are not said to be tuned perfectly by whether or not a little splooge comes out the pipe. Name an experienced mechanic who tunes a two stroke by watching if anything comes out the pipe. If this guys bike runs perfectly and has a perfectly light brown spark plug and never fouls plugs, then what do you say when it has splooge out the pipe? I've had bikes exactly like that. Like was said by RichLockyer, it goes in one end and out the other. No internal combustion engine COMPLETELY BURNS EVERYTHING on each explosion. Especially 2-strokes, like RichLockyer said. I would bet my bike the silencer on this thing hasn't been repacked in years if ever.

how does everyone feel about changing up the fuel ratio to 50-1 with high test pump gas i used to have a yz 80 and i put borsen reeds in and changes up the fuel ratio and had no oil spitin out of the pipe no more and no plug foul thats just a suggestion and a question -corey-

Run the ratio and the fuel specified in the manual if you have not changed the compression ratio.

There's an old saying about dirtbikes... particularly 2-strokes:

"They run GREAT, right before they blow up"

Don't worry about the oil... that's a GOOD sign. It means that the engine is getting proper lubrication. Just repack the silencer every year or so.

isnt that the truth about blowin up lol thank i learned sumthing new i have to remember that about repackin the silencer next time i ever get another 2 stroke its probably cheaper than repalceing reeds and thats true about the compression also i did some heavy top end work on that ole bike i think thats y i went to 50-1 it wouldnt max out on rpms and it did spit oil out until a freind that raced them said to change the fuel ratios due to comp change-corey-

If you hit a magic button and have perfect jetting, the oil from the previous weeks, months, years? of too rich jetting is still in the exhaust pipe and silencer. It will take a while to get it all out of the system.
