If the plates are stuck together the only way to separate them other than taking the clutch to pieces is to just blip the throttle as you put it into gear, if it stalls, it stalls, you don't hold the throttle open and drop it into gear unless it's a speedway bike.

The basket or hub may be notched up a bit which keeps them stuck together a bit. Does the bike creep when you rev it up high while in gear?
Sometimes they do it a bit when you first start it up and it is quite normal.

Most KXs only have one ring, I think im right in saying that the trail bikes like the KDXs have 2 rings (correct me if im wrong; KDXGarage or someone who knows them inside out)

some companies sell pistons with one ring for better acceleration, top end power, more overrev, less cyl bore wear.but u lose a little bottom end power from increased blow by past the piston.wiseco usually sells them for a few different models.i didn't see one for ur bike on there website.they got 1 for 01-08 kx85,00-08 kx60 & they have 1 for my 97 kx250 or any 92-01 kx250.these bikes come with 2 rings from the factory.so u can use a 1 ringer in ur bike.as for your bike being slow to idle down u could have a air leak u should check the intake boot to carb clamp is tight, check that the intake is not dry rotted & leaking, check that the intake bolts are tight carefull tho cause there only need to be tightened to 7-8ftlbs,then u can try the mixture screw but i dout thats your problem but try it before the next step.the mixture screw setting can be any where from 1 to 2 1/2 turns out from fully seated depending on how rich or lean ur pilot jet is normally it's should be 1-1/2 to 2 turns out from fully seated.if not in the 1-1/2 to 2 range u should go up or down in size with the pilot jet.set the mixture screw at 1-1/2 out if that don't help u either need to clean the carb or replace the intake gasket(s) cause ur running lean for some reason

it sounds like the problem with ur clutch is the basket. my kx125 did the same thing and i took the clutch out and its notched real bad. banging into gear in my opinion made it even worse cause thats what the previous owner told me to do. look into a new clutch basket. they are expensive but that is probably what is wrong.
