Hey everyone, my 01-02 KX 125 is giving me some problems.
I think there's something up with my tripple clamps or something. My pro taper bars ARE bent, but when I have my tripple clamps sitting straight in relation to my frame, my front tire isn't straight, it's to the left. I know I'll have to get new bars but how do I straighten my wheel or forks? On my rear shock, the little rubber thing on the bottom of it is wearing out, I'm assuming this is to stop it bottoming out the shock completely. What do I do about this? Is it easy to replace myself or is it a huge job ripping the swingarm and shock up? If I've been 6 gear pinned for a length of time and I turn the bike off smoke billows out of the muffler for a long time, this doesn't happen if I've just been riding normally. I did a top end on the bike in December and it hasn't had much riding since, so I don't think it needs a rebuild. My expansion chamber has big dents and a crack in it and I think my muffler packing would be screwed, do you think that would be part of the problem? My fuel tank where the shrouds bolt into is broken, like the plastic that's meant to hold the nuts in the tank in place just wore away and the bolts came out. I've been using welding compounds and stuff to hold the bolts in but I really need a new tank, or is there a way to fix this properly? My fixes keep coming undone. I'm sorry for all the questions. |

loosen clamps and handlebar mounts after buying new handlebars, realign and tighten
The shock has to come apart to replace the bottom out bumper. If the bottom out bumper is worn out, then the insides aren't a lot better, usually. The shock may need new seals and a bushing while it is apart. Has the shock ever been serviced? The shock will need to have the nitrogen replaced after being serviced. You MUST release the nitrogen before working on it, and you MUST put nitrogen into it before riding. You may be burning off oil inside the pipe and silencer. You may want to weld the crack closed to have it perform better (properly). Hopefully you aren't shutting it off while still moving in 6th gear, as it still needs lubricant provided by the fuel mix. I'd say it's time to find a used tank on eBay. Your stop-gap measures have stopped.
